AMD is continuing to refresh its desktop CPU portfolio with two new additions aimed at mainstream PC builders: the Ryzen 5 7500 for the Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 family and the Ryzen 5 5500F for the older Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series. While neither chip arrived with a major launch event, their appearance confirms that AMD is still actively filling gaps across both AM5 and AM4 platforms.

The standout addition is the AMD Ryzen 5 7500, a new 6-core, 12-thread desktop processor based on the Zen 4 architecture. It joins the Ryzen 7000 series as a close relative of the Ryzen 5 7500F, but with one important difference: integrated graphics.

The Ryzen 5 7500 features a base clock of 3.7 GHz and can boost up to 5.0 GHz. It also includes 38 MB of total cache, split between 6 MB of L2 cache and 32 MB of L3 cache. Like many other Ryzen 7000 desktop processors, it carries a 65W TDP, making it a power-efficient option for everyday gaming PCs, productivity systems, and compact desktop builds.

Another key detail is that the Ryzen 5 7500 is unlocked for overclocking. That gives enthusiasts and budget-conscious builders more flexibility to tune performance, especially when paired with a capable AM5 motherboard and sufficient cooling.

The biggest advantage over the Ryzen 5 7500F is the inclusion of integrated graphics. AMD has equipped the Ryzen 5 7500 with an RDNA 2-based iGPU featuring two graphics cores running at up to 2200 MHz. This is not intended to replace a dedicated gaming GPU, but it can be useful for display output, troubleshooting, office systems, media playback, or builds where a graphics card will be added later.

For users building an AM5 PC, the Ryzen 5 7500 could become an appealing entry-level Zen 4 option. It offers modern platform support, DDR5 compatibility, PCIe 5.0 support depending on the motherboard, strong single-thread performance, and a built-in graphics solution that the 7500F lacks.

Alongside the Ryzen 5 7500, AMD has also introduced the Ryzen 5 5500F, a new Zen 3 processor for the AM4 platform. This is notable because the Ryzen 5000 series has been around for several years, yet AMD continues to expand the lineup with new models for users who still rely on AM4 motherboards.

The Ryzen 5 5500F is a 6-core, 12-thread processor with clock speeds ranging from 3.0 GHz to 4.4 GHz. It also has a 65W default TDP, keeping it in line with many of AMD’s mainstream desktop CPUs.

However, there is an important difference compared with other 6-core Vermeer-based Ryzen chips such as the Ryzen 5 5600. The Ryzen 5 5500F comes with 16 MB of L3 cache, which is half the 32 MB found on some higher-positioned Zen 3 desktop processors. That reduced cache may affect performance in certain games and workloads, though the chip could still be attractive if priced aggressively.

The Ryzen 5 5500F appears to target budget PC builders who want a low-cost upgrade path on the AM4 platform. For those already using an older Ryzen processor, this chip may provide a simple drop-in upgrade after a motherboard BIOS update, depending on board compatibility.

AMD’s decision to release both processors shows that the company is taking a two-platform approach. AM5 continues to grow with newer Zen 4 options like the Ryzen 5 7500, while AM4 remains relevant for value-focused buyers through additions such as the Ryzen 5 5500F.

Pricing has not yet been announced for either processor, but availability is expected globally. The final price will be especially important, as both chips will likely compete in the highly sensitive budget and mid-range desktop CPU market.

If AMD positions them well, the Ryzen 5 7500 could become a strong choice for affordable AM5 gaming PCs, while the Ryzen 5 5500F may appeal to users who want to extend the life of an AM4 system without spending heavily on a full platform upgrade.
