AMD’s Computex 2026 Lineup Could Bring Fresh Ryzen CPUs, Zen 6 Hints, and New Handheld Gaming Moves
Computex 2026 is almost here, and all eyes are on AMD as the company prepares for one of the biggest PC hardware stages of the year. While AMD has not officially confirmed its full product lineup for the Taipei event, the current wave of leaks and industry chatter points to several exciting possibilities across desktop CPUs, mobile processors, AI-focused chips, graphics, and gaming handhelds.
After a busy CES season, Computex is often where major hardware brands reveal what comes next for builders, gamers, laptop makers, and workstation users. For AMD, this year could be especially interesting. The company is expected to continue expanding its Zen 5 family while also laying the groundwork for future Zen 6 products.
AMD may expand its Zen 5 desktop and laptop CPU lineup
AMD rarely moves on from a CPU generation quickly. Instead, the company usually keeps adding new models over time, filling price gaps and offering more options for different types of users. That strategy appears likely to continue at Computex 2026.
Zen 5 is still AMD’s latest mainstream CPU architecture, but the company has also continued releasing select Zen 4-based processors. Because of that, new Zen 5 refreshes for both desktop and mobile platforms would not be surprising.
On the mobile side, AMD has already introduced its Gorgon Halo series, with the Ryzen AI Max+ 495 sitting at the top of the stack. This chip improves on its predecessor with higher boost clocks and is designed for powerful laptops that need strong CPU, GPU, and AI performance in one package. Computex could bring additional Ryzen AI Max models, giving laptop manufacturers more choices for premium notebooks, creator machines, and mobile workstations.
Desktop users may also see something new, especially in AMD’s popular 3D V-Cache lineup. One of the most talked-about possibilities is the Ryzen 7 7700X3D. Rather than being part of the Ryzen 9000 family, this chip is expected to join the Ryzen 7000 series as a more affordable 3D V-Cache option.
The rumored Ryzen 7 7700X3D is expected to feature 8 cores and 16 threads, just like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. It may also include 96 MB of L3 cache, making it attractive for gaming-focused PC builds. The main difference would be clock speed, with expected base and boost clocks of around 4.0 GHz and 4.5 GHz. If priced correctly, this processor could become a strong option for gamers who want the benefits of 3D V-Cache without paying for a higher-end model.
Zen 6 could make an early appearance with Medusa Point and Medusa Halo
Although a full Zen 6 launch at Computex 2026 seems unlikely, AMD may offer an early preview or teaser of its next-generation CPU plans. Zen 6 is expected to be a major architectural step forward, especially for mobile processors.
The first Zen 6-based mobile chips are rumored to arrive before desktop variants. These chips are expected to fall into two major families: Medusa Point and Medusa Halo.
Medusa Point is believed to be the successor to Strix Point and may use a larger FP10 socket. This could allow AMD to increase performance, improve platform capabilities, and support more advanced memory and graphics technologies.
One of the biggest expected changes with Zen 6 is a higher core count per CCD. Current Ryzen desktop chips have generally been limited to 8 cores per CCD, but Zen 6 is rumored to push that number up to 12 cores per CCD. That would be a significant jump and could improve multi-threaded performance across laptops, desktops, and high-end mobile systems.
Medusa Halo may be the more powerful and ambitious product family. Like Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo, it is expected to target high-performance laptops and compact systems that need strong CPU and integrated GPU power. The flagship Medusa Halo chips could reportedly offer up to 24 cores and 48 threads, along with as much as 96 MB of L3 cache.
The integrated graphics side could also receive a major upgrade. Medusa Halo is expected to use an RDNA 5-based iGPU, potentially delivering a large performance improvement over current RDNA 3.5 graphics. Memory support may also move to LPDDR6, with speeds rumored to reach up to 14,400 MT/s. If accurate, this would provide a major bandwidth boost, which is especially important for powerful integrated graphics.
Based on current expectations, the Ryzen AI Max family could evolve in a clear pattern. Ryzen AI Max 300, based on Strix Halo, uses Zen 5 CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 graphics, LPDDR5X memory, and offers up to 16 cores and 32 threads. Ryzen AI Max 400, based on Gorgon Halo, keeps the Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 foundation but improves clocks and platform tuning. Ryzen AI Max 500, expected to use Medusa Halo, could move to Zen 6, RDNA 5 graphics, LPDDR6 memory, and up to 24 cores and 48 threads.
If these details hold true, AMD’s future mobile chips could become extremely competitive for AI PCs, gaming laptops, creator systems, and compact performance machines.
Do not expect RDNA 5 desktop GPUs just yet
While AMD may have CPU announcements ready for Computex, the graphics card side is less certain. A new RDNA 5 discrete GPU launch does not appear likely at this event. That means the rumored Radeon RX 10000 series is probably not ready for a public debut.
Instead, AMD may focus on expanding or refreshing the Radeon RX 9000 series. This could include new models designed to fill pricing gaps or improve competitiveness in key gaming segments. A refresh would make sense if AMD wants to keep its current GPU lineup relevant while preparing its next-generation architecture behind the scenes.
Gamers hoping for a major new Radeon architecture announcement may need to wait longer. However, AMD could still use Computex to highlight driver improvements, AI features, efficiency gains, or new partner graphics cards.
Gaming handhelds could become a major battleground
One of the most interesting areas to watch is handheld gaming. AMD has been the dominant chip supplier for many gaming handheld PCs, thanks to its strong Ryzen APUs and efficient integrated graphics. However, competition is heating up.
Intel’s upcoming Panther Lake variants and Arc G3 graphics are expected to power a new wave of handheld gaming devices. Some manufacturers are already exploring these chips for future portable systems, which could challenge AMD’s lead in this growing market.
