Amazon just supercharged its camera-based shopping with Lens Live, a real-time visual search feature that turns your phone into an instant product finder. Similar to tools like Google Lens and Pinterest Lens, Lens Live lets you point your camera at anything in the real world and immediately see matching products in a swipeable carousel at the bottom of the screen.
This is an upgrade to Amazon’s existing Amazon Lens, not a replacement. While Amazon Lens already lets you snap a photo, upload an image, or scan a barcode to discover items, Lens Live adds live recognition so you can identify products on the fly—perfect for those moments when you spot something you love at a café, on a friend, or on a store shelf.
Lens Live also ties into Amazon’s AI shopping assistant, Rufus. Within the camera experience, Rufus serves up AI-generated product summaries, related insights, and suggested questions you can ask to learn more. That means quick, conversational research without leaving the page, helping you compare options and decide faster.
How it works:
– Open the camera in the Amazon Shopping app and point it at the item you’re curious about
– Tap on the object in your viewfinder to focus the search
– Browse matching products in the carousel
– Tap the plus icon to add an item to your cart or the heart icon to save it to your list
The feature is designed for the way people already shop—especially comparison shopping in physical stores to see if there’s a better price or a similar style online. By merging instant visual matches with AI-driven guidance, Amazon is aiming to remove friction from product discovery and decision-making.
Under the hood, Lens Live is powered by Amazon SageMaker for deploying machine learning models at scale and runs on AWS-managed Amazon OpenSearch, supporting fast, relevant results in real time.
Availability:
– Rolling out first on the Amazon Shopping app for iOS
– Initially reaching tens of millions of U.S. shoppers, with a broader U.S. rollout to follow
– No announcement yet on international expansion
Lens Live is the latest in a string of AI-driven shopping upgrades from Amazon, which recently introduced tools like AI-enhanced product reviews, AI shopping guides, personalized prompts, fit-finding tools for clothing, audio product summaries, and new AI tools for sellers.
Bottom line: Lens Live aims to make real-world inspiration instantly shoppable, with AI helping you understand what you’re seeing and whether it’s the right buy—without breaking your browsing flow.
