Amazon is reportedly preparing its largest round of layoffs since the sweeping reductions that began in late 2022 and continued into 2023. According to Reuters, people familiar with the matter say the company could eliminate up to 30,000 corporate roles as soon as Tuesday.
The cuts are expected to span multiple divisions, including human resources, devices and services, operations, and other corporate functions. If executed at this scale, it would surpass recent, smaller reductions across the company’s portfolio. Earlier this year, Amazon trimmed a limited number of roles in its Communications and Sustainability teams.
The looming workforce reduction aligns with a broader shift toward automation and AI. A memo highlighted by CNBC from CEO Andy Jassy suggested that as Amazon deploys more AI agents across the business, the need for certain corporate positions will decline. That strategy underscores the company’s emphasis on efficiency and productivity as it streamlines operations.
