The new Galaxy S24 series, which includes the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, has introduced some changes that may affect the user experience, particularly regarding the phone’s display features. Users have noticed that both the Always On Display (AOD) functionality and the Vivid color profile appear to have been altered, raising questions about the intention behind these adjustments.
Dimmer Always On Display
The AOD feature on the Galaxy S24 models seems to be dimmer compared to that of previous generations, such as the Galaxy S22 and S23. This dimness persists irrespective of whether the wallpaper mode or the standard AOD setting is used. While the dimmer AOD may contribute to better battery life, it could also compromise visibility, which is a key aspect of the AOD’s convenience. Additionally, a yellowish tint has been reported on the AOD for the Galaxy S24 series, even when color adjustment features like the Eye Comfort Shield and Adaptive Color Tone are disabled.
Vivid Color Profile Becomes Less Vivid
Color profiles for the Super AMOLED displays on Galaxy smartphones typically come in two modes: Vivid and Natural. In the past, there has been a clear distinction between these options. However, on the Galaxy S24 series, the difference between the Vivid and Natural profiles is less pronounced, with the Vivid setting appearing muted. The new Vivid profile doesn’t seem to exhibit the same level of color saturation as seen on older models.
As for the overall display performance of the Galaxy S24 series, it remains excellent, with bright and crisp visuals under the right conditions. Still, the blending of the Vivid and Natural color profiles and less punchy colors have left some users dissatisfied, leading to speculation on whether these choices were deliberate.
It remains to be seen if Samsung will respond to user feedback regarding these display characteristics with a firmware update to address these observations. A YouTube video discussing these findings has also been referenced, indicating widespread discussion and interest in these changes among the Galaxy S24 user base.
