Ayaneo Reveals Advanced Liquid Cooling for Upcoming Flip Handheld Consoles

Ayaneo has announced an innovative vapor chamber (VC) liquid cooling system for its soon-to-be-released Flip handheld consoles, showcasing a commitment to maximizing the performance of AMD Phoenix and Hawk Point APUs. Despite the higher production costs associated with this advanced cooling technology, the pricing of the consoles is expected to remain competitive.

The Flip KB / DS handheld consoles are currently available for pre-order through a crowdfunding initiative on Indiegogo, where Ayaneo has shared additional specifications, including details about the enhanced cooling system. The company aims to set a new standard with the introduction of the VC technology which is more commonly found in premium laptops and sophisticated smartphones.

Arthur Zhang, CEO of Ayaneo, highlighted that their handheld consoles could be the industry’s first to incorporate a vapor chamber heat dissipation system. This move is driven by the need to enable the integrated AMD APUs to perform at maximum speeds without overheating. In contrast to traditional copper heatpipe systems which were inadequate for the task, the VC system offers considerably better performance. Despite the costlier VC manufacturing process, the premium is not significantly reflected in the final price for consumers.

The VC plate implemented by Ayaneo measures 6243 mm^2, with a heat dissipation fin area of 27189 mm^2, positioning it notably between laptop-sized and phone-sized vapor chambers. Careful design considerations ensure that the air vents do not obstruct access to key ports, such as the TF card reader slot.

The Indiegogo campaign for the Flip KB / DS consoles has an additional 61 days remaining, with shipping expected to commence in March.

The Ayaneo Geek handheld console is also available for purchase on Amazon.

The introduction of high-end vapor chamber cooling technology in portable handheld gaming consoles spells a significant step forward for the industry, as manufacturers like Ayaneo seek to push the boundaries of performance and user experience.
