Aaeon Unveils Panther Lake Edge Mini PCs Boosted by Frore AirJet Cooling

Aaeon has introduced a new version of its UP Xtreme PTL Edge mini PC lineup, and the biggest upgrade is not just performance. The new UP Xtreme PTL Edge Air models use Frore Systems’ AirJet solid-state cooling technology, replacing the traditional heatsink-and-fan design with a much slimmer, quieter, and lighter thermal solution.

The result is a compact industrial mini PC built for demanding edge AI workloads while taking up less space. With the AirJet cooling system, the chassis is only 35.8 mm tall, making it 35% thinner than the standard version. The total system weight drops to 1.57 pounds, which is around 43% lighter. For industrial deployments where space, weight, airflow, and reliability matter, that reduction could make a significant difference.

Unlike conventional fans, AirJet cooling uses ultrasonic-frequency membrane vibrations to create fast, pulsing airflow. This allows the system to move heat away from the processor without the bulk, vibration, and higher noise levels commonly associated with fan-based cooling. Even under full load, the UP Xtreme PTL Edge Air is rated at just 21 dBA, making it suitable for noise-sensitive industrial environments.

The new mini PCs are powered by Intel’s Panther Lake platform and are aimed at edge AI applications such as industrial robotics, autonomous mobile robots, AI vision systems, 3D LiDAR, and VSLAM. Aaeon is offering several processor options, including the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, Core Ultra 7 356H, and Core Ultra 5 325.

Higher-end configurations include Intel Arc B390 integrated graphics with 12 Xe cores. Combined with Intel’s fifth-generation NPU, the system can deliver up to 180 TOPS of AI performance, giving developers and industrial users the processing power needed for real-time inference, machine vision, automation, and advanced sensor-based workloads.

Memory support is another strong point. The system includes two DDR5-7200 SODIMM slots, allowing users to install up to 128 GB of RAM. For storage, the UP Xtreme PTL Edge Air provides two M.2 2280 slots, with support for PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 drives. This gives the compact system enough bandwidth for high-speed data logging, AI model storage, and fast local processing.

Connectivity is also well equipped for industrial and embedded use. The mini PC includes two USB4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, dual HDMI 2.1 outputs, and DisplayPort 2.1 support through USB4. It also features dual 2.5 GbE LAN ports, a combo audio jack, a 40-pin GPIO connector, and two COM ports.

Wi-Fi is not included by default, but users can add wireless connectivity through the available M.2 2230 E-Key slot. This approach gives system integrators more flexibility, especially in environments where wired networking is preferred or where specific wireless modules are required.

The AirJet cooling system brings clear advantages in size, weight, and acoustics, but it also comes with a few trade-offs. Aaeon notes that the AirJet-equipped model draws around 5% more power on average, with total system power reaching approximately 100 W. The operating temperature range is also listed at -10°C to 45°C, which may be narrower than some fan-based industrial systems.

Even with those compromises, the UP Xtreme PTL Edge Air stands out as an interesting option for companies building compact edge AI systems. Its combination of Panther Lake processing, high AI performance, quiet solid-state cooling, strong I/O, and a thinner industrial chassis makes it well suited for robotics, smart manufacturing, AI vision, and embedded automation projects.
