Frostpunk finally brings its brutal survival strategy to Nintendo Switch on October 19
Frostpunk is officially coming to Nintendo Switch on October 19, giving Nintendo players a long-awaited chance to experience one of the most acclaimed survival city-building games of the last decade. Even better, a free demo is already available, allowing players to step into the frozen wasteland before launch.
Developed by 11 bit studios, Frostpunk is not a typical city builder. Instead of focusing on comfort, expansion, and prosperity, the game challenges players to keep humanity alive in a world locked in endless winter. You take control of New London, one of the last remaining cities on Earth, and must build a functioning society around a massive generator that provides heat in the deadly cold.
Every decision matters. Players must manage limited resources, assign workers, construct shelters, research new technology, and keep the population from collapsing under hunger, illness, and despair. What makes Frostpunk stand out is its constant moral pressure. As the leader of the city, you may be forced to choose between compassion and survival. Should children be sent to work if the city needs more hands? Should harsh laws be introduced to maintain order? How far should society go to survive?
These difficult choices are what helped Frostpunk become one of the most respected survival strategy games since its original PC release in April 2018. The game later arrived on PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile platforms, but Nintendo Switch players had to wait years for their version. That wait is finally coming to an end.
The Nintendo Switch version of Frostpunk was first announced earlier in 2026, and 11 bit studios has now confirmed its October 19 release date. The game is launching for the original Nintendo Switch and is expected to be playable on Nintendo Switch 2 through backward compatibility.
Frostpunk will be available in two versions at launch. The standard edition includes the base game and is priced at $29.99. Players who want the full experience can choose the Complete Edition for $45, which includes the main game plus three expansions: The Rifts, The Last Autumn, and On The Edge.
To celebrate the launch, 11 bit studios is offering a limited-time discount. The standard edition will receive 30% off, while the Complete Edition will be available with a 35% discount.
For fans of strategy games, survival games, and dark narrative-driven experiences, Frostpunk on Nintendo Switch could be one of the most important releases of October. Its mix of city management, resource survival, and morally complex decision-making makes it a standout title, especially for players looking for something deeper than a traditional building game.
With a free demo already available and the full launch set for October 19, Nintendo players can soon discover whether they have what it takes to lead humanity through the ice.
