A newly shown 3D-printed dummy of Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold is giving people their clearest sense yet of just how different Apple’s first foldable iPhone could feel compared to today’s slab-style phones. And the big takeaway is simple: once it’s opened up, the iPhone Fold looks like it will be a two-handed device for most users.
When unfolded, the iPhone Fold appears to deliver a noticeably larger viewing area than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It’s not just a small bump in screen size on paper, either. While the jump being discussed goes from 6.9 inches to about 7.7 inches, the aspect ratio makes the unfolded display look even more spacious than those numbers suggest. In real-world use, that can translate into more room for reading, browsing, multitasking, watching video, and editing photos or documents without everything feeling cramped.
To put the size into perspective, comparisons have been made against popular foldables from Oppo. The Oppo Find N2 is one of the closer matches in overall concept, with a 5.54-inch cover display (18:9 aspect ratio) and a 7.1-inch main display. Even so, next to the iPhone Fold dummy, the Find N2 reportedly offers less usable screen space when opened.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Oppo Find N5 reflects the more recent “big foldable” trend. It features a 6.62-inch cover display with a taller 21:9 aspect ratio and an 8.12-inch inner display. In side-by-side comparisons, that model looks significantly larger overall—almost gigantic—compared to the iPhone Fold dummy, suggesting Apple may be aiming for a foldable that’s more manageable in size rather than pushing for the biggest unfolded screen possible.
As for timing, the iPhone Fold is currently expected to be unveiled in September 2026. Of course, this is still in rumor territory, and Apple’s final design, display dimensions, and overall product strategy could change before anything becomes official. For now, the 3D-printed dummy is best viewed as an early clue: Apple’s foldable could prioritize practical everyday handling while still delivering a meaningful upgrade in screen real estate when opened.
