Yuka App Introduces Direct Consumer Feedback Feature for Food and Makeup Ratings

Yuka, the innovative health app that has been transforming how people interact with food and cosmetics, is taking its mission to the next level. Originally launched in France in 2017, Yuka gained popularity by allowing users to scan product barcodes to get instant health rankings. These assessments are based on factors such as additives, sugar, saturated fat, fiber for food, and harmful substances like endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, allergens, and irritants in cosmetics. With Yuka’s recommendations, consumers are empowered to make smarter, healthier choices.

Since its inception, Yuka has uncovered alarming truths about some major corporations and their use of potentially harmful ingredients, which many customers unknowingly consume. This exposure prompted retailers such as the French supermarket chain Intermarché to reformulate 900 products, eliminating 140 additives due to the increased awareness and demands from informed consumers.

In a move to further amplify consumer influence, Yuka has launched a new feature that allows users to contact companies directly about questionable ingredients. The “Call-out the Brand” function debuted today, giving users the power to email manufacturers directly if a product is flagged with Yuka’s red health concern label. Users can utilize a pre-written message provided by Yuka or tailor it to their liking. Additionally, users can make their voices heard by posting publicly on X, with plans to extend this feature to other social media platforms, including Instagram.

Though individual emails and posts can seem feeble, Yuka aims to rally thousands, if not millions, of users to advocate collectively for cleaner, healthier products. This initiative aligns with a study from the Food Industry Association and NielsenIQ, revealing that 72% of consumers prioritize transparency in product information and labeling when selecting food brands.

This initiative could be particularly impactful in the United States, where food regulations are often not as rigorous as those enforced in Europe.

Currently, this new feature is accessible to Yuka’s premium users in France and the United States, with membership fees ranging from $10 to $50 annually. Premium benefits include offline usage, unlimited history, and more perks. Expansion to other countries is on the horizon.

Yuka can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store. Impressively, it has accumulated over 60 million users globally, with 1 million being paid subscribers, including 700,000 in the U.S. Yuka is poised to reshape consumer habits, pushing for greater accountability and transparency from brands worldwide.
