Xiaomi is expanding its smart home lineup with a new indoor surveillance option: the Smart Camera 4 Max AI Zoom Edition. The camera has appeared on Xiaomi YouPin with a price of about $116, positioning it higher than many typical home security cameras. The launch is expected in just under a week, and Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed whether it will also roll out in additional countries and regions.
What sets the Xiaomi Smart Camera 4 Max AI Zoom Edition apart is its combination of motorized movement, zoom, and AI-powered monitoring. It’s a PTZ design, meaning the camera can pan and tilt to cover more of a room without needing multiple cameras. Xiaomi lists 360-degree rotation for a full panoramic sweep, along with up to 180 degrees of tilt, which can help it track activity across larger spaces. Installation is also flexible, with support for ceiling mounting.
On the imaging side, Xiaomi is using a dual-sensor setup. One camera sensor is 12 megapixels with a 4,096 × 3,072 resolution, while the second is an 8-megapixel sensor at 3,840 × 2,160. Xiaomi is promoting a 12× hybrid zoom, including a “lossless” 3× optical zoom, which should be useful for getting a closer look at details without immediately degrading image quality the way purely digital zoom often does.
Smart detection is another key focus. Beyond basic security monitoring, the camera includes AI capabilities designed to recognize certain situations and behaviors—Xiaomi specifically mentions pet monitoring, suggesting it can identify or react to pet activity more accurately than standard motion detection.
For connectivity, the Smart Camera 4 Max AI Zoom Edition uses Wi‑Fi 6 for data transmission, aiming for faster and more stable performance on compatible networks. Power, however, still relies on a physical cable connection rather than battery operation, which is common for feature-rich indoor PTZ cameras that need consistent power for motors and continuous monitoring.
