Xiaomi Smart Camera Video Call Version 2 arrives with a built-in screen and 4K recording
Xiaomi has introduced the Smart Camera Video Call Version 2, a new home camera designed to do more than simply monitor a room. The latest model adds a built-in display, upgraded 4K video recording, two-way video calling, and smarter home integration, making it feel closer to a dedicated family communication hub than a traditional security camera.
The device is listed through Xiaomi’s Youpin platform, with crowdfunding set to begin on August 26. Pricing starts at ¥429, which is approximately $60, positioning it as an affordable smart home camera with features usually found in more expensive devices.
The biggest upgrade is the 3.97-inch fully laminated color screen. Unlike the previous model, which relied more heavily on a smartphone for video calls, the new version can handle calls directly on the camera itself. The display has a 480 x 800 resolution and is paired with larger physical buttons that are designed to be easier to press and more responsive.
This makes the camera especially useful for families who want a simple way to stay connected at home. Elderly relatives, children, or anyone who may not always have a phone nearby can answer or start video calls directly from the device.
Xiaomi says the Smart Camera Video Call Version 2 supports calls between the camera and a smartphone, as well as direct calls between two compatible cameras. Users can start calls in three ways: with a hand gesture, by pressing a button, or through an automatically linked calling option.
Audio is also a key part of the upgrade. The camera includes two microphones, a large speaker, and noise reduction technology intended to make voices clearer even when there is background noise in the room. This should help improve everyday video chats, especially in busy homes.
For video capture, Xiaomi has equipped the camera with an 8MP sensor capable of recording at up to 3840 x 2160 resolution. That means the device supports 4K video, offering sharper detail for home monitoring, video calls, and live viewing.
The camera also features a newly designed pan-and-tilt system. It can rotate 360 degrees horizontally, allowing it to cover an entire room from a fixed position. Manual tilt is supported from 0 to 30 degrees, giving users more flexibility when setting up the viewing angle.
Inside, the camera uses a 1.5T chip that Xiaomi claims delivers 50 percent more computing power than the previous generation. That added performance is being used to improve AI-based scene recognition and activity detection. In practical terms, the camera should be better at deciding which movements or events are important enough to trigger alerts.
Smart home compatibility is another major selling point. The Smart Camera Video Call Version 2 works with Xiaomi’s HyperConnect ecosystem, allowing it to link with other compatible smart home devices. During a call, users can also view the live camera feed on the built-in screen, adding another layer of convenience.
Family sharing is supported as well, so multiple household members can access the camera when needed. This makes it suitable not only for home security, but also for checking in on children, pets, elderly family members, or shared living spaces.
For now, the Xiaomi Smart Camera Video Call Version 2 appears to be launching first in China through crowdfunding. Xiaomi has not confirmed whether the device will be released in other markets.
