Xiaomi is ramping up the pre-launch hype for its next budget-friendly performance phone, the Redmi Turbo 5, and the latest teaser drops reveal several key specs that should appeal to power users who don’t want to spend flagship money.
The company has already confirmed the Redmi Turbo 5 will run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 chipset. Xiaomi is positioning this chip as a strong value play, even branding it as “Dimensity 8500-Ultra” for this device. While early benchmark sightings suggest the real-world performance jump may not look dramatic on paper, Xiaomi claims a notable boost where many users feel it most: graphics. According to the brand, the GPU can deliver up to a 25% improvement, which could translate into smoother gaming and more stable frame rates in demanding titles.
To help the chipset perform at its best, Xiaomi says the Redmi Turbo 5 pairs the Dimensity 8500-Ultra with LPDDR5X Ultra memory and UFS 4.1 storage. This combination is typically associated with faster app loading, quicker installs, and better multitasking responsiveness. Xiaomi is also highlighting a “3D” vapor chamber cooling system designed to sustain performance for longer periods, especially during gaming or heavy workloads, where heat usually forces phones to throttle.
Display and battery details are also now official. The Redmi Turbo 5 will feature a 6.59-inch screen with a claimed peak brightness of 3,500 nits. That’s an eye-catching number for this price tier and should help with visibility in bright outdoor conditions, while also improving HDR punch in compatible content.
Battery is another major talking point. Xiaomi confirms a large 7,560mAh battery, slightly bigger than what was used in the previous Turbo 4 Pro. Despite the big cell, charging speeds remain aggressive: 100W fast charging is supported, along with 27W reverse charging for topping up accessories or even another phone in a pinch. The device also supports the PPS charging standard, which can improve compatibility with a wider range of modern fast chargers.
Durability looks like a strong focus as well. Xiaomi is advertising IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings, suggesting the phone is built to handle everything from dust exposure to high-pressure water jets, depending on the specific standard being referenced.
As for pricing and availability, Xiaomi is teasing the Redmi Turbo 5 in the CNY 2,000 range, which roughly converts to about $288. The China launch is scheduled for January 29, 2026.
With a large battery, very high peak brightness, fast charging, and a performance-focused Dimensity 8500-Ultra setup with upgraded memory, storage, and cooling, the Redmi Turbo 5 is shaping up to be one of the more interesting “affordable power” phones to watch early in 2026.
