Xiaomi is expanding the Redmi K90 lineup with a model aimed squarely at mobile gamers: the Redmi K90 Max. The company has now confirmed exactly when it’s arriving in China, and the early details suggest it’s being built for fast, smooth gameplay and better heat control during long sessions.
The Redmi K90 Max will officially launch on April 21 at 7 PM local time in China. Xiaomi has also opened pre-orders across multiple Chinese online retail platforms, giving interested buyers a chance to reserve the phone ahead of the announcement.
One of the biggest highlights is the display. Xiaomi says the Redmi K90 Max will feature a 6.83-inch screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, a specification designed to deliver ultra-smooth motion in competitive titles and fast-paced games. The panel is also claimed to reach up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness, which should help with visibility in bright environments and improve HDR-style punch when supported.
Gaming phones live or die by sustained performance, and Xiaomi is leaning hard into cooling with an active fan system. The company states the handset includes an 18.1mm internal fan, and claims it can reduce the phone’s temperature by 10°C in just 100 seconds during extended gaming. If real-world performance matches the claim, this could help maintain higher frame rates for longer periods by reducing thermal throttling.
Durability is another attention-grabber. Xiaomi confirms the Redmi K90 Max will carry IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. That combination suggests stronger protection not only against dust and immersion, but also against high-pressure water sprays—something that’s still relatively uncommon in performance-focused phones.
Design-wise, Xiaomi has shown the phone with an aluminum alloy frame and has highlighted a “Space Silver” color option so far. Teaser images also confirm a dual rear camera setup, though Xiaomi hasn’t yet shared full camera specs or a complete hardware breakdown.
While the official spec sheet remains under wraps, leaks point to a high-end MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor and a D2 discrete graphics chip. If those rumored components are accurate, the Redmi K90 Max could be positioned as a serious contender for users who prioritize gaming performance, display speed, and cooling innovations over a traditional flagship focus.
