Xiaomi revamps PC game emulation, adding local Steam play support

Xiaomi just supercharged mobile gaming with a major update to its Game Center app, adding built-in Windows PC game emulation and early support for select titles from Steam. The move pushes Android-based PC game emulation forward and gives Xiaomi phone owners a new way to play beloved indie hits on the go.

According to Redmi product manager Sun Cun, the headline feature is native support for three fan favorites: Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Stardew Valley. In demos, the games are shown running on the Redmi K90 Pro Max, hinting at strong performance on flagship hardware. It’s not yet clear whether other Steam titles currently run natively through the app, but Xiaomi has previously showcased its WinPlay Engine, a technology designed to let users play PC games locally on their phones.

Beyond game compatibility, the update focuses on polish and quality-of-life features:
– Cloud save synchronization lets players continue progress seamlessly across devices.
– A refreshed achievement system is now active, adding goals and milestones to supported games.
– Expanded controller support includes popular mobile gamepads, while a redesigned on-screen control layout adapts intelligently to long and short presses required by different titles.

There’s one important caveat: local Steam play is still labeled experimental. Early adopters should expect occasional bugs or compatibility issues. The team behind the feature is actively gathering feedback and working on fixes, so stability and game support should improve over time.

With established options like GameHub and Winlator already pushing PC game emulation on Android, Xiaomi’s native approach inside Game Center gives its users a streamlined, phone-first experience. If you own a recent Xiaomi or Redmi device, this update could turn your handset into a surprisingly capable indie game machine, complete with cloud saves, achievements, and flexible controls.
