Xiaomi Recalls 117,000 SU7 EVs Over Smart-Driving Safety Concern

Xiaomi is recalling 116,887 units of its SU7 electric sedan in China due to a smart driving software issue that could compromise safety in rare, complex road situations. The action targets Standard Edition models produced between February 6, 2024 and August 30, 2025, according to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation.

Regulators say some vehicles may fail to adequately recognize, warn, or respond to extreme navigation scenarios when the advanced driver assistance system is active, potentially increasing the risk of a collision if the driver does not intervene quickly. Xiaomi will address the problem via a free over-the-air software update, so affected owners won’t need to visit a service center.

The company also announced a broader software rollout: both the SU7 and the YU7 SUV are set to receive the latest Xiaomi HyperOS 1.10.0 upgrade. Beyond the safety fix, the update is expected to refine system performance and overall driving experience.

Key recall details:
– Affected models: Xiaomi SU7 Standard Edition
– Production window: February 6, 2024 to August 30, 2025
– Issue: ADAS may not properly handle extreme navigation scenarios
– Remedy: Free over-the-air software update
– Additional update: HyperOS 1.10.0 for SU7 and YU7

Despite the recall, the SU7 remains a strong seller, with about 340,000 units delivered since its March 2024 launch. The lineup includes three trims—Standard, Pro, and Max—positioning the sedan across multiple price and performance tiers in China’s highly competitive EV market.

Safety around autonomous and assisted driving features has faced increased scrutiny this year. In March, a Standard SU7 collided with a highway guardrail, resulting in three fatalities, an incident that intensified public attention on smart driving systems and driver oversight.

For owners, the immediate takeaway is straightforward: install the forthcoming OTA update as soon as it becomes available and continue to supervise any driver assistance features at all times. The recall underscores the importance of continuous software improvements in modern EVs, where over-the-air updates can rapidly address issues and enhance safety without pulling vehicles off the road.
