Xiaomi announces new 4K Mini LED TV S with HyperOS

Xiaomi has expanded its lineup of televisions with the launch of the new 4K Mini LED TV S series in China. The series comes in three size variants – 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch, which succeed the company’s previous year’s TV S Pro series. Like earlier models, the new TVs boast Mini LED panels, but differ in terms of the number of backlight partitions provided: 308, 392, and 512 for the 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch models respectively, compared to the 65-inch TV S Pro variant that features a denser 896 partitions.

The new TV S series, however, falls short of the TV S Pro in maximum brightness capability, peaking at 1,200 nits—less luminous than the Pro series’ 2,200 nits. Despite this, the display quality remains competitive, offering 94% DCI-P3 color space coverage, as well as support for an array of high dynamic range formats including HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and IMAX Enhanced, catering well to the needs of cinema enthusiasts and gamers alike. Speaking of gaming, users will appreciate the 144Hz refresh rate complemented by 120Hz MEMC technology and a dedicated 240Hz gaming mode. The gaming performance is further enhanced with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync Premium support, and a low 4ms response time.

The connectivity front is well-equipped with HDMI 2.1 as well as HDMI 2.0 ports, not to mention USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 serving the wireless connections. Under the hood, these televisions are powered by a quad-core A73 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and a substantial 64GB of internal storage.

One of the key features is Xiaomi’s HyperOS operating system, designed to offer smart home connectivity, app-based control, and voice command options to integrate seamlessly with a user’s digital lifestyle. Additional features include an in-built speaker system, and a Filmmaker Mode to ensure viewing content as originally intended by the creators.

As for the pricing, the Xiaomi TV S55 Mini LED, S65 Mini LED, and S75 Mini LED have been introduced at discounted rates ranging from approximately $390 for the 55-inch to around $640 for the 75-inch model. These prices fall below that of the more premium TV S Pro series, offering consumers a more budget-friendly option for a high-spec television.

While the launch is currently exclusive to the Chinese market with no clear sign of availability in other regions such as Europe or North America, Xiaomi’s new 4K Mini LED TV S series is expected to catch the attention of tech enthusiasts and bargain hunters looking for the latest in television technology at an attractive price point. Whether you’re immersing yourself in the latest blockbuster or requiring a responsive display for gaming, Xiaomi’s new offerings seem poised to deliver on several fronts.
