After a quiet stretch of rumors, the Xiaomi 17 Max is back in the spotlight and it may be nearing its official debut. A recent leak suggests Xiaomi is preparing to round out its Xiaomi 17 lineup with one final flagship model, positioning the Xiaomi 17 Max as the last and largest entry in the series. If the latest chatter is accurate, it will join the existing family that already includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
What makes the Xiaomi 17 Max interesting is that it’s expected to be more than a “bigger battery, bigger screen” version of the standard Xiaomi 17. The strongest upgrades reportedly focus on the camera system, hinting that Xiaomi wants the Max model to borrow some of the more premium imaging hardware typically associated with the Pro-tier devices.
The main camera is rumored to jump to a 200MP sensor. Leaks point to a 1/1.4-inch size, which suggests Xiaomi is aiming for improved light capture and detail compared to smaller sensors. Alongside that, a 50MP ultra-wide camera is expected, and the telephoto setup could see a major boost too: a 50MP periscope telephoto camera is rumored, likely using a 1/1.95-inch sensor. If true, this would place the Xiaomi 17 Max in the same general league as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max for zoom photography.
Performance and endurance could be two more key selling points. The Xiaomi 17 Max is said to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with a large 6.9-inch OLED display. Perhaps the most attention-grabbing spec in the leak is the battery, which could reach an enormous 8,000mAh capacity. That combination of a big OLED screen and an ultra-large battery hints at a phone built for heavy daily use, travel, gaming, and long-form video without constantly hunting for a charger.
This rumored spec mix could also make the Xiaomi 17 Max a compelling alternative for buyers who like the idea of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, but don’t necessarily want extras such as a rear secondary display. In other words, it may offer much of the Pro Max experience while keeping the design simpler.
As for timing, the latest leak points to a May launch in China. Global availability is still unclear, and it remains to be seen whether the Xiaomi 17 Max will expand into Europe, especially since some models in the lineup may not be released there. For now, the Xiaomi 17 Max looks set to be Xiaomi’s final big flagship reveal for the Xiaomi 17 generation—one that could prioritize camera upgrades, top-tier performance, and standout battery life.
