ASUS Unveils Xbox Ally X20 Bundle With OLED Display and ROG XREAL R1 Gaming Glasses
ASUS has introduced a special Xbox Ally X20 bundle during its ROG 20th Anniversary event, giving handheld gaming fans a refreshed version of the popular Ally X along with a more immersive display accessory. While the device is still manufactured by ASUS, the Xbox branding makes this launch especially interesting for players watching the growing competition in the handheld gaming PC market.
The new bundle pairs the Xbox Ally X20 with the ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses. These glasses connect through USB-C and create a massive virtual screen in front of the user, offering up to a 171-inch viewing experience at 1080p and 240Hz. For gamers who want a more cinematic portable setup, this combination could make the Ally X20 feel less like a small handheld and more like a full gaming station that fits in a bag.
What makes the Xbox Ally X20 stand out is that it is not simply a cosmetic anniversary edition. ASUS has made several practical upgrades over the standard Ally X, many of which address feedback from handheld gaming enthusiasts.
The biggest improvement is the display. ASUS has replaced the 7-inch IPS screen with a larger 7.4-inch OLED panel. It keeps the same 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, but the move to OLED should deliver deeper blacks, stronger contrast, richer colors, and a more premium visual experience overall. For handheld gaming, where screen quality can dramatically affect immersion, this is easily one of the most important upgrades.
Even more impressive, ASUS has managed to fit the larger OLED screen into a chassis that remains close to the original Ally X design. The company has also improved internal airflow, which should help keep temperatures under better control during longer gaming sessions.
Another major change is the switch to TMR joysticks. These replace the older potentiometer-style sticks, which are more vulnerable to stick drift over time. TMR joystick technology is expected to provide better durability and more accurate input, making the Ally X20 more appealing for players who spend long hours in fast-paced games.
Cooling has also been reworked. ASUS says the updated thermal design should help reduce surface temperatures, which is especially important now that the handheld uses an OLED screen. OLED panels can be more sensitive to heat, so better cooling could improve both comfort and long-term reliability. Full testing will be needed to see how much of a difference the new cooling system makes in real-world use.
The Xbox Ally X20 also receives a striking visual makeover for the ROG anniversary celebration. The device now features a transparent shell, giving users a look at parts of the internal design. Gold accents appear on the side buttons, the rear inlay, and what appear to be the fan shrouds visible through the back cover. A 20th anniversary badge adds to the collector’s-edition feel, while the Xbox logo now lights up in green.
ASUS has made some ergonomic refinements as well. The face buttons now sit flush when pressed, which should make thumb-sliding movements smoother during gameplay. This may be a small change, but it can matter in titles that require quick transitions between buttons.
The D-pad receives a more meaningful upgrade. It can now be twisted to switch between 4-way and 8-way input. That is a welcome feature for fighting game players, retro gaming fans, and anyone who prefers more control over directional input depending on the type of game being played.
Under the hood, the Xbox Ally X20 appears to continue using the same core performance platform as the Ally X, including AMD’s Z2 Extreme APU and 24GB of RAM. Some gamers may have hoped for a larger performance jump, especially as newer handheld gaming PCs continue to push efficiency and graphics performance forward. Still, the display, controls, cooling, and design upgrades help make this anniversary version feel more refined than a simple refresh.
ASUS has not yet confirmed pricing for the Xbox Ally X20 bundle, and it has not said whether the handheld will be sold separately. Considering the standard Ally X is priced at around $999 and the ROG XREAL R1 glasses cost about $850, the full bundle could land near the $2,000 range. If ASUS sells the handheld on its own, a price between $1,100 and $1,200 would not be surprising given the OLED screen and other upgrades.
The Xbox Ally X20 arrives at a time when interest in handheld gaming PCs is stronger than ever. With an OLED display, improved joysticks, a redesigned cooling system, transparent anniversary styling, and bundled gaming glasses, ASUS is clearly aiming to make this device feel premium, collectible, and more immersive.
For players who already own the Ally X, the upgrade may depend on how much they value OLED, better controls, and the new design. But for new buyers looking for a high-end Windows gaming handheld with a standout display and a unique accessory bundle, the Xbox Ally X20 could become one of the most eye-catching portable gaming devices of the year.
