X is rolling out a new way for creators to clearly flag sponsored content, introducing a “Paid Partnership” label that can be added directly to posts. Announced Monday, the update is designed to make advertising on the platform more transparent, helping audiences quickly understand when a product mention is a genuine recommendation versus a paid promotion.
Sponsored-post disclosure has been a growing focus across social media for years, especially after regulators urged influencers to make paid relationships “clear and conspicuous.” Until now, creators on X largely had to rely on workarounds such as adding hashtags like #ad or #paidpartnership. Those tags can be easy to miss, and they also change the look and tone of a post—something many creators try to avoid.
With the new feature, creators can switch on a “content disclose” setting while composing a post. Once enabled, the Paid Partnership label will appear immediately below the post’s content, making the disclosure hard to overlook. X also says the label can be applied after a post goes live, which helps creators correct an omission if they forgot to mark a promotion during publishing.
According to X’s product leadership, the goal is simple: protect trust. Undisclosed promotions can damage credibility for creators and lead users to doubt what they’re seeing in the feed. By giving creators a built-in tool to properly label ads, X is aiming to support monetization while keeping the platform’s conversations and recommendations feeling authentic.
This update fits into X’s broader push to win over creators with monetization options like payouts for high-performing posts, ad revenue sharing, and subscriptions. Even so, X continues to face an uphill climb attracting creators who often prioritize platforms that are more established for influencer marketing and long-form content. Adding a native Paid Partnership label is a practical step that makes brand deals easier to manage and helps creators comply with advertising rules without cluttering posts with hashtags.
The move also connects to other recent efforts to improve content integrity on the platform. X recently made changes to reduce automated, programmatic replies via its API, aiming to limit spammy activity, including waves of AI-generated responses. That kind of spam can distort conversations and can also be exploited to make sponsored posts look more popular or more positively reviewed than they really are.
For creators, brands, and everyday users, the Paid Partnership label is a straightforward change with a big impact: clearer ad disclosure, better compliance, and a more trustworthy experience when sponsored content shows up in the timeline.
