With 21:9 Ultrawide, Hollow Knight: Silksong Might Find Its True Home on PC

Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting native ultrawide monitor support on PC, letting players soak in more of its moody, hand-drawn world at a glance. Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin confirmed the game will support aspect ratios up to 21:9, giving you a wider field of view to spot hazards and paths before they’re on top of you.

Ultrawide displays are often associated with flight and racing sims, but the benefits carry over beautifully to a Metroidvania. The expanded perspective offers a fuller sense of place and can reduce backtracking frustration. New screenshots shared on social media highlight how the atmospheric lighting and layered 2D art scale across wider frames. The health mask bar stays near the center so you don’t have to scan the edges for key info, yet there’s more on-screen to guide your next move.

Only a small slice of PC gamers have ultrawide monitors, but those who do won’t have to tinker with files to remove black bars like in the original Hollow Knight. Everyone else still benefits from Silksong’s approachable PC specs. According to its Steam page, the minimum requirements call for an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti or AMD Radeon HD 7750, putting the game within reach of many older systems.

Consoles don’t currently output at 21:9, but handheld players have something to look forward to as well. On the Switch 2, Silksong is set to offer a 120 Hz refresh rate, which should make the fast, side-scrolling combat feel smoother and more responsive. Lower input lag could also help with tightening parry windows and landing perfectly timed strikes.

Perhaps the most surprising news is the price. After a retail listing sparked speculation, Team Cherry confirmed the Metroidvania will launch at just $19.99. With that low barrier to entry, broad hardware compatibility, and quality-of-life improvements like ultrawide support, expectations are high for a massive surge of players when Hollow Knight: Silksong arrives on September 4. Whether you’re running a standard 16:9 display or a panoramic 21:9 setup, this sequel looks ready to reward exploration, precision, and curiosity from the very first step.
