Wilderings: The Lost Spring is coming in spring 2027, bringing a vibrant mix of open-world exploration, action roguelite progression, metroidvania-style discovery, and creature collecting to Windows PC and consoles.
Indie developer Herobeat Studios has confirmed the release window for the upcoming adventure, which was previously known as Rewilders: The Lost Spring. The game is planned for launch in spring 2027, with a PC release on Steam alongside console versions.
The story follows Abi and her loyal companion Rif as they journey through a broken world slowly being swallowed by darkness. As Abi explores the wild and dangerous landscape, she discovers strange creatures called Hântu. These mysterious beings are more than simple companions. Once recruited, they become essential tools for survival, giving Abi new weapons, combat abilities, and traversal options that help her reach new areas and face increasingly powerful threats.
Wilderings: The Lost Spring aims to blend several popular genres into one seamless adventure. Players can expect fast-paced combat, open-ended exploration, roguelite elements, creature collection, and metroidvania progression, all tied together by a world focused on nature, decay, and renewal.
A major new look at the game highlights the Volcanic biome, one of the most intense environments revealed so far. This harsh region is shaped by extreme heat, exposed stone, flowing magma, and constant geological activity. At first, it may appear barren and hostile, but the area is filled with life that has adapted to survive under brutal conditions.
The Volcanic region is home to unique plants, creatures, and Hântu that thrive among fire, minerals, and unstable terrain. Instead of presenting the biome as a lifeless wasteland, Wilderings: The Lost Spring turns it into a dangerous but fascinating ecosystem where every creature has evolved to endure the heat.
Three new Hântu from the Volcanic region have also been revealed. Razzle attacks with explosive projectiles that ignite and multiply after impact, making it useful for spreading damage across enemies. Mokul can call down pyroclastic rain, scorching wide areas and giving players a powerful way to control the battlefield. Furioso uses magma-based attacks that spread between nearby enemies, creating opportunities for chain damage during combat.
These new Hântu give Abi fresh ways to fight, explore, and interact with the environment. Each creature appears designed to reflect the identity of its biome, allowing players to harness the destructive energy of the Volcanic region while uncovering new strategies.
The latest reveal also introduces Röhe, the Moth Boss. Röhe is described as a young hunter from the Frostlands who challenges Abi in a dramatic battle set inside a magma-lit arena. The fight is built around movement, timing, and smart use of Hântu abilities, pushing players to dodge carefully, attack at the right moments, and keep moving through the arena.
Although Röhe is much larger than Abi, the battle emphasizes adaptability over brute force. Players who learn the boss’s patterns and make effective use of their recruited Hântu will have a chance to overcome the towering opponent.
Wilderings: The Lost Spring will also be playable at Gamescom, where attendees can try an exclusive new build featuring the Volcanic biome and the battle against Röhe. The demo will be available at the Indie Arena Booth from August 26 to August 30.
With its combination of creature collecting, open-world action, roguelite progression, and nature-driven storytelling, Wilderings: The Lost Spring is shaping up to be an ambitious indie adventure. Its spring 2027 release window gives players plenty of time to watch how Abi’s journey, the Hântu system, and the game’s fractured world continue to evolve before launch.
