WhatsApp’s New AI Can Suggest Replies Tailored to Your Chats

WhatsApp is rolling out a wave of new updates designed to make everyday chats faster, smarter, and easier to manage. The Meta-owned messaging app is introducing AI-powered suggested replies, improved tools for drafting messages, a simpler way to free up storage space, new Meta AI photo editing options, and several long-requested account and transfer upgrades.

The standout change is an upgrade to WhatsApp’s Writing Help feature, which is built to help you craft messages without leaving the app. Writing Help originally launched last August with tools to rephrase text, proofread it, or adjust the tone. Now, WhatsApp is expanding it further so you can get your message “just right,” including AI-generated suggested replies based on your conversation.

This move clearly positions WhatsApp’s built-in AI tools as an alternative to using outside AI assistants. Still, not everyone will be eager to let AI write parts of their personal conversations. Many people are comfortable using AI for formal tasks like emails, but may prefer to keep messages to friends and family fully personal. WhatsApp says chats remain private even when using Writing Help.

Using Writing Help is straightforward. Tap the chat bar, choose the stickers icon in the typing field, then select the pencil-with-sparkles icon that marks an AI feature.

Beyond AI messaging, WhatsApp is also addressing a common pain point: storage. The app can now help you find and delete large files directly inside individual chats. Instead of clearing an entire conversation to save space, you can remove only what you don’t need. For example, you can delete media files while keeping the chat history intact, giving you more control over what stays and what goes.

Photo sharing is getting a boost as well. WhatsApp now lets you use Meta AI to touch up images directly in a chat. That means you can remove distracting objects, change backgrounds, or apply a different style without switching to another editing app.

There are also significant updates for people who switch phones or juggle multiple accounts. WhatsApp now supports moving chat history from iOS to Android, and it also allows transfers within the same platform. On top of that, iPhone users can finally log into two WhatsApp accounts at the same time on iOS, a capability Android users have already had.

Even stickers are becoming more intelligent. WhatsApp will now suggest relevant stickers as you type certain emojis, making it easier to swap an emoji for a sticker that better matches what you want to say.

WhatsApp says these features are rolling out now and will be available to all users soon.
