Digital Extremes, the creative minds behind Warframe and Soulframe, have become well-known for crafting exceptional games and impressive content updates, albeit often with some delays. With their latest expansion, Warframe 1999, they’ve managed to keep details close to the vest, only announcing a concrete release date for this eagerly awaited Cyberpunk-inspired expansion. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for Soulframe.
In the latest Warframe Devstream, it was revealed that Warframe 1999 will debut in December 2024, bringing a plethora of new features to the game’s live-service PvE looter experience. Fans can look forward to the following exciting additions:
– A brand new world named Höllvania
– A new syndicate known as The Hex
– The Atomicycle, a new traversal vehicle
– Two new factions, Techrot and Scaldra
– An innovative mission type: Endless Capture
– A fresh Warframe called Cyte-096
– Protoframe Skins and Gemini Emotes
– New adversaries titled Technocyte Coda
– A range of 1999-themed cosmetics
Höllvania will maintain the classic tile-based procedural-generation model that Warframe players are familiar with. However, unlike recent updates focused on open-world exploration, this installment will feature various seasons, each offering distinct experiences and possibly altering enemy types, boons, effects, or even loot drops. The developers remain a bit secretive about the specifics, adding to the anticipation.
As for Soulframe, while it’s been in the works for quite some time, Digital Extremes remains candid about its full release being in the distant future. Although a closed version is currently undergoing testing with a limited player base, it was confirmed during a Soulframe Devstream that a pre-alpha version is expected to launch sometime in 2025. Initially planned for 2024, it’s speculated that Soulframe’s release could occur in the first half of the year, but the developers have not committed to a precise timeline.
Unlike Warframe, Soulframe veers more towards the fantasy genre than sci-fi. Nonetheless, developers plan to integrate lessons learned from Warframe into Soulframe’s development. For instance, they intend to use Warframe’s Focus Schools system as a foundation for the Fighting Arts progression system. Observant fans will also notice similarities in the in-game particle and lighting systems, as well as character design and movement—a testament to the studio’s distinctive touch.
Warframe is known for performing remarkably well on gaming handhelds, showcasing the technical prowess of Digital Extremes. As a tech enthusiast, it’s fascinating to see how technology continues to evolve and enhance user experiences across different gaming platforms. From humble beginnings tinkering with Motorola Defy in high school to overclocking an i7 930 in a pre-built PC, the passion for technology has only grown stronger and continues to inspire a deeper exploration into laptops, smartphones, and emerging tech trends.
