In a notable move in the telecommunications industry, VTech, recognized as the largest manufacturer of residential phones in the US, is on the verge of completing the acquisition of Gigaset. Known for their distinctive Android phones which feature removable batteries and the pride of being made in Europe, Gigaset has unfortunately faced considerable financial difficulties recently.
Aside from their unique Android handsets, Gigaset has carved out a position as a leading provider of digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) devices in Europe, announcing products like the Comfort 552 handset.
The acquisition will see VTech taking over Gigaset’s remaining assets, including their manufacturing facility located in Bocholt, Germany. This move is part of a strategic acquisition initiative expected to be finalized by April 2, 2024. Although details regarding the financial aspects of the deal have not been disclosed, it is understood that VTech will be financing the purchase through internal resources.
The CEO of Gigaset, Dr. Magnus Ekerot, has expressed optimism regarding the acquisition, emphasizing the potential for the business to retain current clients while also reaching new markets and customers.
This acquisition is poised to enhance VTech’s current research and development, as well as production capacity, through the integration of skilled employees from Gigaset’s workforce. With this strategic expansion, VTech aims to solidify its market presence in telecommunications as well as in the e-learning technology space, known for products targeting young children, such as the KidiStar DJ Mixer.
Overall, this agreement heralds a significant realignment within the telecommunications domain, with VTech extending its influence and capabilities through the assimilation of Gigaset’s resources and expertise.
