VSCO is rolling out a wave of AI-powered upgrades designed to elevate photo editing for creators and professionals. The update introduces advanced image editing tools, high-resolution RAW support, non-destructive editing, and content-aware region detection—all aimed at helping photographers work faster without sacrificing quality.
At the heart of the release is a new AI Labs tab. Here, users can remove unwanted objects from photos by highlighting or circling them, and the app will intelligently fill in the background to match surrounding textures, colors, and lighting. VSCO says its “intelligent area detection” helps preserve resolution and color fidelity, reducing the artifacts and smudging that often plague similar tools. The company positions this precision as especially useful for professional workflows where detail matters.
Selections are simple to make with Brush, Tap, or Lasso tools, giving editors control over what stays and what goes. VSCO is also preparing to launch Upscale, an AI feature that promises to boost image resolution and sharpen fine details without undermining composition—a potential win for large-format prints and high-detail commercial work.
These features are powered by Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext model, underscoring VSCO’s emphasis on quality results from the underlying AI engine.
AI Labs is available with VSCO’s Pro tier on the VSCO Studio app for iOS. Pricing is $12.99 per month or $60 per year, and there’s no cap on how many times subscribers can use the AI features. Alongside AI tools, the update brings support for high-resolution RAW files and a non-destructive editing workflow, enabling creators to experiment freely and revert at any time.
“Since our inception, VSCO has supported authentic creative expression and has provided photographers with many ways to achieve their desired success. We see how much AI is impacting photography, and are focused on bringing AI tools to our community that are designed specifically to support photographers in achieving creative excellence while respecting the art of their photography,” said Eric Wittman, VSCO’s CEO.
This push builds on VSCO’s broader strategy to serve working photographers. Recent additions include an AI-powered whiteboard for client collaboration, a marketplace that connects photographers with potential clients, and Workspace tools to manage bookings and schedules. Taken together, VSCO is shaping a cohesive platform that spans creative ideation, editing, and professional workflow.
For photographers looking to remove distractions cleanly, enhance detail, and maintain full control over their edits, AI Labs offers a compelling, high-quality toolkit with unlimited use on the Pro plan.
