Vivo is rumored to be shaking up the foldable phone market by launching a new series of flagship foldable smartphones with impressive chipsets. The upcoming X Fold3 series is expected to feature two distinct models powered by Qualcomm’s high-end processors.
While Xiaomi’s latest offerings, including the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra have introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset to the market, other brands like Honor, OnePlus, and Samsung have also been integrating this powerful chipset into their new flagships.
In the arena of foldable smartphones, however, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been the dominant choice, as seen in devices such as the Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design. Vivo aims to break this trend with its X Fold3 series. The more budget-friendly option of the series, the X Fold3, is anticipated to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, aligning with Vivo’s current foldable flagship.
Conversely, the premium model, the X Fold3 Pro, is expected to upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This model will also boast a robust camera system, with a 50 MP main camera, 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64 MP periscope telephoto camera. Meanwhile, the standard X Fold3 may feature a 50 MP camera with 2x optical zoom capabilities, forgoing the periscope lens.
The release dates for the Vivo X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro have not been officially announced, but both devices are predicted to launch together later in the month. Following Vivo’s release pattern, these devices will first become available in the Chinese market.
This development indicates Vivo’s commitment to innovative technology and the brand’s intention to be at the forefront of the evolving foldable phone industry. The integration of powerful Snapdragon chipsets in foldables will likely set new benchmarks for performance and functionality in this niche market.
