Valve’s Proton 11.0-2 Update Adds 9 More Playable Games to Steam Deck

Valve Proton 11.0-2 Update Makes More Games Playable on Steam Deck, SteamOS, and Linux

Valve has rolled out Proton 11.0-2, a major compatibility update for Linux gaming, SteamOS devices, Steam Deck, and the Steam Machine. The latest release brings a wide range of bug fixes, performance improvements, controller enhancements, video playback fixes, and game-specific compatibility updates.

For Steam Deck owners and Linux gamers, this is one of the more important Proton updates in recent memory. Several games that recently stopped working after updates are now playable again, while nine additional titles have officially been marked as playable through Proton.

Nine new games are now playable with Proton 11.0-2

The new Proton release expands the list of supported games with several fresh playable additions. The newly playable titles include:

AsteroidsHD

Heroes of the Three Kingdoms 7

Konkan Coast Pirate Solutions

Otherworld Legends 战魂铭人

Plain Sight

Portal Worlds

SMILE GAME BUILDER

Tetrageddon Games

Warhammer: Dark Omen Classic

This is especially good news for Steam Deck users who rely on Proton to run Windows games on SteamOS. Each Proton update helps close the gap between Windows and Linux gaming, and version 11.0-2 continues that progress with a strong focus on real-world game compatibility.

Major games fixed in Proton 11.0-2

One of the biggest highlights of the Proton 11.0-2 update is the return of several popular games that had recently become unplayable due to game updates or compatibility problems.

Diablo IV is now working again after a recent update caused issues on Proton. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has also been fixed after it stopped working following a game update. Helldivers 2, another major title affected by a recent patch, should now launch properly again.

Marvel Rivals has received a crash fix, while Arc Raiders has been fixed for some users who were unable to play. Path of Exile also gets a stability fix for a crash caused by specific chat text.

For racing fans, Valve has addressed black screen problems in Forza Horizon 4, Forza Horizon 5, and Forza Horizon 6 on recent SteamOS versions. Forza Horizon 6 also received a fix for an issue that caused the game to close automatically after suspend and resume.

Performance, launcher, and display improvements

Proton 11.0-2 also fixes several regressions introduced in Proton 11. Games using CEG protection should no longer take extra time to start. Terraria should no longer perform worse than it did on Proton 10, and Exanima has received fixes for both performance regression and gamma issues on certain systems.

Crysis 2 Remastered should no longer hang during loading when ray tracing is enabled. Borderlands Game of the Year Enhanced should now launch without the previous initialization error. The Coma 3: Bloodlines is playable again, and the debug menu in SCP: Secret Laboratory is working once more.

There are also improvements for older and classic titles. Call of Duty from 2003 now displays proper colors in the main menu, Warhammer: Dark Omen Classic has a fix for low-resolution map display issues, and Homeworld 2 Classic from Homeworld Remastered Collection now behaves correctly when using alt-tab.

Controller and input fixes for Steam Deck and SteamOS

Controller support is another important part of this Proton update. Valve has improved controller hotplug reliability, which should make reconnecting controllers smoother during gameplay.

Rocket League previously detected re-plugged DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers as additional devices, but that problem has now been fixed. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered also now has working input when running in fullscreen mode on SteamOS.

These improvements are especially useful for Steam Deck players who frequently switch between handheld controls, docked setups, and external controllers.

Fixes for launch problems, crashes, and black screens

A long list of games received fixes for startup failures, crashes, freezing, or broken rendering. Dark and Darker should no longer sometimes hang on startup. Escape from Monkey Island received a crash fix for certain setups. DIRT 5 has been fixed for crashes on CPUs with hybrid cores.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst no longer freezes on systems without Nvidia GPUs due to nvapi presence. Vagante has also been fixed for a freeze on character select when using Wayland with Nvidia GPUs. No Limits 2 Roller Coaster Simulation now renders colors correctly with Nvidia GPUs on Wayland.

SHOGUN: Total War should no longer get stuck on a black screen after alt-tabbing. Resident Evil 2 also received a fix for low-resolution fullscreen mode problems on high-resolution displays in certain configurations.

Audio and video playback fixes

Proton 11.0-2 includes several media playback and audio fixes. Portal 2 now has improved audio behavior on 7.1 setups, while DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS received a fix for audio issues that appeared after device suspend.

The intro video audio distortion in Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron – Flyboyz Edition has been fixed. Video playback has also been improved in Psycho-Sleuth Demo, STAR WARS Starfighter, Legend of Mana, and Moero Chronicle.

Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster received a fix for visual distortions in pre-rendered backgrounds, while Zombie Estate 2 now properly renders sprites again.

Other notable game fixes in Proton 11.0-2

Command & Conquer: Generals, Command & Conquer: Renegade, Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars should now detect custom Steam Workshop levels again.

Arma 3 workshop mods should no longer update unnecessarily every time the game launches. Natural Selection 2 can connect to servers again. The Talos Principle and The Talos Principle VR should no longer incorrectly show a login window at launch.

The King of Fighters XIII Global Match should no longer leak memory. HITMAN World of Assassination also received a memory leak fix. War Thunder has been fixed for an occasional crash when selecting “To Battle!”

Rocket League, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and Squad now start properly when using a non-English locale. Worms Armageddon now respects the system locale when suggesting a language during team creation.

Batman: Arkham City GOTY now has Xalia enabled for its settings window. Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara should correctly display available resolutions on some setups. Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart now has working saves again.

Technology updates included in Proton 11.0-2

Alongside the game-specific fixes, Valve has updated several important Proton components. Wine Mono has been updated to version 11.2.0. FEX has been updated to FEX-2607. vkd3d-proton, DXVK, vkd3d, and dxvk-nvapi have also been updated to newer builds.

These background upgrades are important because they help improve DirectX translation, Windows compatibility, CPU architecture support, and overall stability across Linux gaming setups.

Why Proton 11.0-2 matters for Steam Deck and Linux gaming

Proton continues to be one of the most important technologies behind modern Linux gaming. It allows Windows games to run on Linux-based systems such as SteamOS, making the Steam Deck a far more capable handheld gaming device.

With Proton 11.0-2, Valve is not only adding more playable games but also fixing major problems caused by recent game updates. That is crucial because online and live-service games often change quickly, and even a small update can break compatibility.

For Steam Deck users, this update should mean fewer launch failures, fewer black screens, better controller behavior, improved performance in selected games, and a smoother overall experience across a wide range of titles.

Anyone gaming on SteamOS or Linux should consider switching to Proton 11.0-2 for supported games, especially if they have recently experienced problems with Diablo IV, Helldivers 2, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Forza Horizon, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile, or Rocket League.
