Exciting changes are on the horizon for Steam users as Valve announces the full transition to the new Steam Family feature, set to replace the legacy library sharing in early 2025. This innovative feature, rolled out to all users in September, brings enhanced benefits and opportunities for sharing games among family members.
Steam Family stands out by allowing multiple family members to play shared games at the same time. However, it’s important to note that playing the same game concurrently still requires each player to have their own copy. Additionally, this modernized feature empowers users to enjoy shared games offline, offering more flexibility and convenience.
With Steam Family, you can extend your gaming library to up to five immediate family members. Each participant can maintain their own save games and achievements, providing a personalized gaming experience within the shared library.
Valve initially hinted at the eventual retirement of the legacy sharing feature and has now confirmed its discontinuation by early 2025. Transitioning to the new system is straightforward; users can set up Steam Family through the “Family Management” tab under “Account details,” with helpful guidance provided by Valve.
This shift marks a significant step forward in game-sharing capabilities, offering families a seamless and enriched way to enjoy gaming together on Steam.
