In recent developments following the release of the first security update for February, Samsung has revealed the contents of the February 2024 security patch alongside which it has announced changes to the security update eligibility for several Galaxy devices.
The most recent security patch addresses several vulnerabilities that could impact Galaxy device software. Alongside this, Samsung has made adjustments to their security update policy. The newly launched Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and the Galaxy Tab Active 5, which hit the market in January, are now scheduled to receive monthly security updates.
However, not all news has been positive, as some older devices have seen a change in their support schedule. Notably, the Galaxy Tab S6 will not receive security updates unless urgent security issues are found that require immediate attention. Its counterpart, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, will continue to receive quarterly security updates.
Budget-friendly options such as the Galaxy A01 have been completely removed from the security update plan, indicating an end to its support. Devices like the Galaxy Tab A8 and the Galaxy A03 have been relegated to biannual updates, indicating they will receive security patches twice a year until their support period concludes.
Device owners can typically expect to receive automatic notifications prompting them to update whenever a new security patch is available. For those who wish to check for updates manually, this can be done by navigating to the ‘Settings’, then to the ‘Software update’ section, and selecting ‘Download and install’.
For those interested in the latest developments and remaining eligible devices for updates, a comprehensive list can be found through official Samsung channels.
