Unveiling China’s Pioneering All-Domestic Server: Introducing the Dual-Processor Loongson 3C6000 系列

China’s renowned CPU producer, Loongson, has made waves with the introduction of the country’s first entirely homegrown server. This development marks a significant stride for China’s tech industry, showcasing a dual-CPU setup that delivers solid computational power.

Loongson’s groundbreaking server is a testament to China’s determination to advance technologically amidst global trade challenges. In response to stringent US export restrictions, China is investing heavily in its own industry capabilities. According to recent reports, Loongson has created a completely indigenous server system, featuring two of their 3C6000 processors. These processors boast up to 64 physical cores and utilize a unique connectivity technology known as “Loongson Coherent Link,” a pioneering solution designed for the domestic market.

The 3C6000 server CPUs from Loongson show remarkable progress from the earlier 3C5000 series, featuring 16 cores and 32 threads. The company has focused on enhancing CPU interconnectivity, allowing support for up to eight-way connections. This means a single server rack can potentially host up to 128 cores and 256 threads, thanks to the proprietary “Dragon Chain” interconnect system that powers this impressive performance.

Loongson’s internal assessments indicate that the 3C6000 CPU holds its own against Intel’s Xeon 4314, part of the “Ice Lake” series with a comparable core and thread configuration. While Loongson’s performance may not yet rival leading global brands, their focus remains on establishing a sustainable growth trajectory and tapping into new market opportunities—and they seem to be succeeding.

As China shifts toward self-reliance in technology, Loongson is seeing an increasing presence in governmental applications. Although there’s more ground to cover, the steady pace of their advancements suggests that Loongson is poised to wield significant influence in China’s tech landscape in the coming years.
