Indie studio Here Below has unveiled ULTRASOUND, a retro-styled body horror sci-fi game with a chilling pregnancy theme. It’s in development for Windows PC with a planned release in 2026 through Steam.
Set aboard a long-haul space freighter on a doomed trajectory toward a star, ULTRASOUND puts you in the role of Medical Officer Dana Voss. A grotesque alien infection is spreading through the ship, warping systems from the inside out. Your tools are clinical and unsettling: scan with a portable ultrasound device, identify the malformed intrusions lurking beneath the surface, and perform high-stakes surgical procedures to keep critical systems alive long enough to avert catastrophe.
Lead developer and new father Walter Woods says the game is designed to capture the complicated emotions that swirl around an ultrasound—hope, dread, ambiguity, and the fragile line between life and loss. ULTRASOUND aims to translate those feelings into moment-to-moment play, where every incision and diagnosis carries weight.
Moment-to-moment gameplay blends surgical horror with systems management. As the infection grows, life support, power, cargo handling, and other ship functions begin to fail, each with consequences that reshape your run. You’ll scavenge and upgrade medical equipment, concoct strange injections with unpredictable side effects, and balance resources as you race against a cosmic deadline. Choices ripple outward, shifting Dana’s path and ultimate fate.
Key features
– Diagnose the unknown: Use a portable ultrasound machine to reveal and interpret disturbing malformations hidden within the ship.
– Surgical survival: Conduct tense, grisly procedures to excise infections and restore failing systems before the freighter meets its fiery end.
– Deep systems management: Maintain life support, power, cargo manifests, and more—every system failure changes how you play.
– Experiment and craft: Create unusual medicines and injections, weighing risks, rewards, and unexpected outcomes.
– Evolving narrative: Multiple endings and significant variety across playthroughs, with secrets to uncover and new facets of the story to find.
– Tools and upgrades: Track down new medical instruments and enhancements to battle ever-expanding growths and unwelcome mutations.
ULTRASOUND is targeting a 2026 launch on PC via Steam. A reveal trailer teases its eerie retro aesthetic and scalpel-tight tension, setting the stage for an unnerving blend of sci-fi survival, surgical gameplay, and psychological dread. If you’re drawn to indie body horror, medical mysteries, and space-bound disaster stories, keep this one on your radar.
