FromSoftware’s eagerly anticipated Elden Ring Nightreign Patch 1.02 has hit an unexpected snag. Originally set to introduce an exciting two-player co-op mode, the patch’s release has been delayed due to safety precautions following a significant earthquake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.
The earthquake, measuring 8.8 in magnitude, triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific, affecting countries like Japan, Hawaii, and Indonesia. In response, FromSoftware has postponed the patch to ensure the safety of their staff in the impacted areas. The revised release is scheduled for July 31.
In addition to the co-op feature, the patch was to bring a new set of formidable bosses, including Maris: Fathom of Night, a challenging iteration of the Nightlord boss, Augur. However, this content will also see a delay.
In the wake of the quake, Japan was particularly vigilant, anticipating waves as high as 9.8 feet and issuing evacuation orders. Although initial waves have reached the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan has fortunately reported no injuries, and the alerts are now being downgraded in several regions. Nonetheless, warnings remain in effect for Tohoku and Hokkaido Prefecture.
Elden Ring Nightrein, launched in early 2025, made waves in the gaming community despite mixed reviews. It reached a remarkable peak of over 313,000 players on Steam within an hour, and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The anticipated co-op mode was a response to player feedback, indicating FromSoftware’s commitment to engaging its community.
As the situation stabilizes, fans await the rescheduled arrival of Patch 1.02. During this delay, FromSoftware emphasizes their commitment to safety and looks forward to delivering the new content once conditions improve.
