Tipster Unveils Specifications of Dimensity 8400: A Performance-Focused Core Setup Sans Cortex-X925

MediaTek is stepping into the spotlight once again with plans to unveil another powerful chipset, the Dimensity 8400. Unlike its more advanced sibling, the Dimensity 9400, this new chip won’t feature the high-end Cortex-X925 cores; instead, it’ll focus on efficiency and performance with an exclusive use of Cortex-A725 cores.

Insiders have revealed the expected configuration of the Dimensity 8400. According to reports from reliable sources, the chip will boast a traditional 8-core setup in a ‘1 + 3 + 4’ arrangement. Unlike the Dimensity 9400, which is reputed for employing Cortex-X925 cores, the Dimensity 8400 is designed around the Cortex-A725. These cores are set to handle frequencies reaching up to 3.00GHz, delivering a decent balance of speed and energy efficiency.

The chipset’s less powerful Cortex-A725 cores are anticipated to run at around 2.00GHz, although these specifications are still in the testing phase, with MediaTek fine-tuning for the best performance-to-power ratio. Interestingly, the Dimensity 8400 is rumored to share the same GPU architecture as the Dimensity 9400, potentially integrating ARM’s Immortalis-G925 technology. However, it may operate at a slightly reduced clock speed and feature fewer GPU cores.

In terms of thermal management, the Dimensity 8400 is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm N4P process. This is the same architecture utilized by last year’s Dimensity 9300 series, which also incorporated a performance-only cluster including a Cortex-X4. Essentially, the Dimensity 8400 should comfortably handle tasks that were previously tasked to MediaTek’s flagship chips, thanks to this efficient design.
