Apple will postpone iOS 19 Apple Intelligence features until 2026

The Future of Apple Intelligence: Delayed iOS 19 Innovations Await 2026 Debut

Apple enthusiasts have much to look forward to as iOS 18.2 is set to launch next month, bringing with it a series of significant AI upgrades first announced during the WWDC 2024 event. While Apple remains committed to enhancing Apple Intelligence, the release of these innovative features might take longer than initially anticipated. Unfortunately, the rollout of some key components has been slow and incomplete, with reports suggesting that a major AI feature will be deferred until iOS 19. As a result, it seems iOS 18 might experience similar delays.

Insider Mark Gurman from Bloomberg indicates that numerous features planned for iOS 19 will be pushed beyond version 19.4, delaying their arrival until spring 2026. This means users will have to wait a bit longer to experience Apple’s newest AI advancements. Notably, Siri is still awaiting its anticipated upgrade, which is expected to arrive with iOS 18.4 next year.

Apple’s ambitious strategy includes developing a novel Siri powered by large language models (LLM), intended to eventually surpass the capabilities of ChatGPT. This shift signifies Apple’s plan to reduce dependence on OpenAI by positioning Siri as a more advanced digital assistant.

Although Gurman did not specify which features will be absent in the initial iOS 19 rollouts, it seems likely that LLM Siri will be part of Apple’s broader objectives. Despite Apple’s dedication to Apple Intelligence, it often trails behind competitors when it comes to punctual releases. OpenAI, for instance, consistently introduces new features and AI models at a brisk pace.

Still, recent reports indicate that innovation among OpenAI and its peers has hit a plateau, as Apple steadily closes the gap. The future remains uncertain, but Apple’s growing efforts in AI could potentially reshape the competition landscape by delivering diverse and groundbreaking updates.

The official announcement for iOS 19 is expected at Apple’s WWDC event in June 2025, with a public release planned for the fall. Meanwhile, LLM Siri’s debut is anticipated around spring 2026, likely between March and April. Time will tell if Apple can accelerate the development of its AI features to meet these ambitious timelines. What are your thoughts on Apple’s progress? Will they successfully enhance their AI offerings by the anticipated release dates?
