Tesla enthusiasts, get ready for a game-changing update! The latest 2024.32.3 software release is here, bringing a host of exciting new features, including a touchless frunk opening. Imagine the convenience—just like the hands-free trunk opening introduced earlier this year, the touchless frunk only requires you to stand in front of it with a Phone Key function enabled on your device.
However, if you’re an Android user, you might be out of luck for now. Currently, Phone Key operates exclusively on iPhones. That’s not all; not every Tesla is equipped to support this feature. The magic lies in the Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip—the same tech behind Apple’s AirTags. The latest Model 3 Highland, Model S refresh, and the new Model X come equipped with this chip. And of course, the Cybertruck is packed with all of Tesla’s cutting-edge hardware and connectivity options, enabling touchless frunk access for iPhone users.
But what about the Model Y? Unfortunately, none of the existing Model Y vehicles support the UWB connectivity required for these futuristic features. Despite Elon Musk’s statements about ongoing improvements, it looks like we’ll have to wait until the Model Y Juniper refresh, expected to release by April, for this capability.
Owners lucky enough to receive the 2024.32.3 software update can easily activate the Hands-Free Frunk feature. Just head to the Locks menu in the Settings and switch it on. There’s also a nifty Exclude Home option—flick this switch, and your car won’t open the frunk or trunk touchlessly when parked at home, even if you’re nearby with a Phone Key-enabled device.
So, whether you’re a tech aficionado or simply someone who appreciates the latest automotive innovations, Tesla’s newest features are bound to impress. Just remember, you’ll need an iPhone and one of the latest Tesla models to enjoy the full experience. Happy driving!
