These upcoming releases may involve price reductions of existing models or introducing more economical trims, aligning with Tesla’s mission to make electric vehicles accessible to a wider audience.
While many anticipated a “Model 2,” Tesla instead seems to focus on optimizing the cost of its current line-up. Lars Moravy, the company’s leading engineer, emphasized the priority on reducing production expenses, hinting at more budget-friendly updates for 2025.
Among the highly-anticipated newcomers are the Model Y Juniper refresh and the RWD Cybertruck. The RWD Cybertruck, known for its affordability, was initially introduced as the least expensive option. Although the starting price might not hit the announced $40,000 promise, entering the market at around $60,000 is more feasible given Tesla’s recent profitability strides with the Cybertruck lineup.
As for the Model Y Juniper, lowering its price might prove more challenging but not impossible. The refresh is expected to come with exciting updates like a larger 95 kWh battery, advanced HW4 cameras, and numerous design enhancements. Tesla’s knack for refining manufacturing processes and minimizing component redundancies could result in lowered costs, potentially through the introduction of efficient 800V powertrain systems or affordable 4680 batteries.
The buzz surrounding the Model Y Juniper has intensified with frequent sightings of test vehicles across the globe. Spotted in the U.S., Europe, and China, these camouflage-clad units hint at an imminent release. With the recent start of trial production in Giga Shanghai, featuring about 12 units per day, and a bevy of new design tweaks, the excitement around Juniper’s launch is palpable.
Interestingly, the Juniper versions in China showcase subtle design modifications, catering to local preferences, potentially including a six-seater variant.
