Tesla’s Cybertruck has recently faced its share of criticism, particularly regarding the performance of its oversized 62-inch Gigawiper in challenging weather conditions. Concerns from early adopters have focused on the wiper blade’s tendency to leave streaks on the windshield when removing road salt or dirt in wintry settings, resulting in diminished visibility.
Listening to these concerns, Tesla has responded with a solution. According to Wes Morill, the chief Cybertruck engineer, a new software update (2025.2.8) is set to address these issues. This update introduces an enhanced “soaking” function for the windshield. By holding down the wiper button for at least two wiping cycles, the system will double the amount of cleaning fluid dispensed. This increase is expected to break down debris more effectively, allowing the large wiper blade to clean thoroughly without leaving streaks behind.
Importantly, Tesla opted not to slow down the wiper speed, as a slower speed could reduce visibility when driving at highway speeds. Instead, they focused on optimizing fluid usage for a clearer view.
Though some skeptics remain unconvinced about the new approach, Morill reassured customers that the solution has been rigorously tested in harsh winter environments such as Quebec and Alaska. He encourages Cybertruck users to experience the updated wiper system for themselves once the software rolls out. It’s a practical fix aimed at significantly improving driver visibility and safety in challenging conditions.
