Take-Two Interactive has made headlines with the news that they’ve sold their publishing label Private Division. The specifics, such as the price and the buyer, remain under wraps for now, but the announcement has certainly stirred interest. CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted that the identity of the new owner will be disclosed soon, keeping the gaming community eagerly waiting.
Private Division has not only been a label under Take-Two’s umbrella but also a supporter of creative and independent game development. The buyer has taken over not only the label but also its current and upcoming game projects. While Take-Two bids farewell to this branch, they remain committed to backing Moon Studios’ well-received action RPG, “No Rest for the Wicked,” which debuted earlier this year with considerable success.
Strauss Zelnick elaborated on the strategic decision, emphasizing Take-Two’s focus on leveraging its strongest assets in the gaming world. By focusing their resources, Take-Two aims to dominate the landscape of AAA gaming experiences, which involves expanding both their core and mobile gaming sectors. According to Zelnick, “We are dedicated to crafting these grandiose AAA titles that captivate audiences globally. With some of the industry’s most influential intellectual properties, creating sequels for adored franchises and birthing new blockbusters is what we excel at.”
Although Private Division adeptly nurtured smaller-scale, independently developed games, the shift reflects Take-Two’s ambition for grander ventures. As an example of Private Division’s future ventures, gamers can look forward to “Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game,” developed in collaboration with the Weta Workshop. This enchanting farming simulator game promises to whisk players away to the enchanting world of Middle-earth, with its release slated for early 2025.
With these developments, it’s clear that Take-Two is looking to streamline and enhance its offerings in the realm of high-caliber gaming experiences, promising exciting times ahead for fans and gamers alike.
