Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs recently made a significant move by adding 601 entities, including major Chinese tech firms like Huawei and SMIC, to its export control list. Announced on June 15, 2025, this decision stems from concerns about weapons proliferation and national security. Under the new regulations, Taiwanese companies must obtain export licenses to supply goods to any of these listed entities.
Despite this tightening of controls, optical component suppliers such as Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) have stated that their operations are not expected to be impacted. These companies have downplayed any potential disruptions, suggesting that their current business activities will continue as usual.
This development reflects the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the tech industry, with Taiwan taking a firm stance on managing its international trade relationships while keeping national security at the forefront.
