The company, which has been acclaimed for its flagship model, the CAKE Kalk, faced declining demand and a series of product recalls, which has adversely affected its financial stability. The withdrawal of an investor during a critical funding round exacerbated the situation, leading to the unfortunate bankruptcy filing.
CAKE gained prominence with its innovative approach to electric motorcycle design, launching the Kalk in 2018, which has been praised for its clean and modular design. The Kalk, available in both off-road and street versions, became synonymous with the brand’s commitment to quality and versatility. Alongside the Kalk, CAKE also developed a line of electric mopeds targeted at both commuters and commercial users, offering a variety of configurations and accessories to cater to different needs.
The Osa, another popular offering from CAKE, is a highly configurable utility moped poised to meet a wide array of transportation requirements. CAKE even made strides in conservation efforts, with its solar-powered Kalk AP model being employed by South African park rangers as a silent and eco-friendly method to combat poaching.
