Suunto Race 3S Leak Reveals Major Display, Battery, and Storage Upgrades
A new leak suggests that the upcoming Suunto Race 3S could bring several meaningful improvements over its predecessor, making it a more capable GPS sports watch for outdoor training, navigation, and everyday fitness tracking.
According to leaked marketing material, the Suunto Race 3S is expected to feature four key hardware upgrades, with the display being one of the biggest highlights. The watch is said to include a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen with a 466 x 466 pixel resolution and a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. That would be a major jump from the previous model’s 600-nit display, offering much better visibility in bright sunlight. For runners, cyclists, hikers, and athletes who train outdoors, this could make the watch far easier to read at a glance.
Another important upgrade appears to be the move to sapphire crystal protection. The older model used Gorilla Glass, but sapphire crystal is generally known for stronger scratch resistance. This change could make the Suunto Race 3S more durable during tough workouts, trail runs, mountain adventures, and daily wear.
The leak also points to a storage boost. Internal storage is reportedly increasing to 64 GB, doubling the capacity of the previous generation. This extra space could be useful for offline maps, route data, and music, making the watch more convenient for users who prefer to train without carrying a phone.
Battery life may also see a noticeable improvement. The Suunto Race 3S is expected to last up to 45 hours with continuous GPS use, compared to 30 hours on the earlier model. That would be a strong upgrade for endurance athletes, long-distance runners, hikers, and anyone who relies heavily on GPS tracking. However, regular everyday battery life has not yet been confirmed. The previous Suunto Race S was marketed with up to five days of battery life, so it remains to be seen how the new version performs in standard smartwatch use.
Rumors currently suggest that the Suunto Race 3S could launch on October 15. If the leaked specifications prove accurate, the smartwatch may become an appealing option for users looking for a compact sports watch with a brighter AMOLED display, tougher screen protection, more storage, and longer GPS battery life.
