Surface Laptop 8 leak reveals Snapdragon X2 power, new Jade color, OLED upgrade, and June 16 launch
Microsoft’s next consumer-focused Surface Laptop refresh is shaping up to be one of the most important updates to the lineup in years. A detailed leak claims the Surface Laptop 8 will launch on June 16, 2026, bringing Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 chips, stronger AI performance, fresh color options, and a long-awaited display upgrade.
While business-focused Intel versions of the Surface Laptop 8 have already appeared, the consumer models are expected to move heavily toward ARM hardware. That means Microsoft may be positioning the new Surface Laptop 8 as a direct showcase for Windows on Snapdragon, with longer battery life, improved efficiency, and more on-device AI capability.
According to the leak, the Surface Laptop 8 will be available in the familiar 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes. Microsoft is reportedly keeping the overall design close to the current Surface Laptop style, including the premium chassis, touchscreen display, and minimalist look that has become a signature of the series.
The biggest internal change is the move to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 platform. Buyers are expected to choose between the Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Plus, depending on configuration. The Snapdragon X2 Elite is said to feature a 12-core CPU, while the Snapdragon X2 Plus reportedly comes with a 10-core CPU. Both chips are listed with boost speeds of up to 4.0 GHz.
AI performance also appears to be a major selling point. The integrated neural processing unit is reportedly capable of up to 80 TOPS, giving the Surface Laptop 8 a major boost for AI-assisted tasks, Windows features, creative tools, background effects, and productivity workflows that can run locally on the device.
The display could be another major highlight. The leaked information points to 13.8-inch and 15-inch PixelSense touchscreen options, with an OLED version reportedly on the way. If accurate, this would mark a notable upgrade for the Surface Laptop series, offering deeper blacks, richer contrast, and more vibrant colors compared with traditional LCD panels.
Microsoft is also expected to introduce a new color called Jade. The shade is described as a light green option and will reportedly join Platinum, Gold/Dune, and Black. The new color could help the Surface Laptop 8 stand out more in a market where premium laptops often stick to silver, gray, and black finishes.
Memory and storage options should also appeal to power users. The Surface Laptop 8 is expected to offer up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, along with SSD configurations of 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. The leak also claims the SSD will be user-replaceable, which is a welcome feature for buyers who want easier upgrades or repairs over time.
Battery life is another key part of the story. The 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 8 is said to include a 54 Wh battery, while the larger 15-inch model reportedly uses a 66 Wh battery. Microsoft is expected to rate the smaller model for up to 20 hours of video playback, while the 15-inch version may reach up to 19 hours.
Interestingly, the leaked marketing details for the ARM-based consumer models do not mention the Privacy Display feature that has been associated with some business-focused Intel models. That suggests Microsoft may be reserving certain features for enterprise configurations, while the Snapdragon X2 models focus more on AI, battery life, portability, and premium consumer appeal.
If the leaked details are accurate, the Surface Laptop 8 could become one of Microsoft’s most compelling laptops yet. With Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Plus options, up to 80 TOPS of AI performance, a possible OLED display, replaceable SSD storage, and a new Jade finish, the device appears designed to compete strongly in the premium Windows laptop market.
The official launch is reportedly set for June 16, 2026. Pricing has not been confirmed, but given the high-end specifications, OLED display expectations, and premium Surface branding, the new Surface Laptop 8 is likely to arrive with a flagship-level price tag.
