PlayStation is taking fan appreciation to a whole new level by offering one gamer the chance to literally become part of Gran Turismo 7. Sony has introduced a new community initiative called The Playerbase, designed to spotlight devoted fans by bringing their real-world likeness into major PlayStation games. And it’s starting with one of the most iconic racing franchises in gaming.
According to Sony Interactive Entertainment, The Playerbase is all about celebrating the community that has helped shape PlayStation for more than three decades. The company says it wants to bring dedicated players closer to the PlayStation experience, not just through events or rewards, but by giving them a chance to step into the world of their favorite games in a way that feels truly personal.
For this first opportunity, one winner will be chosen to appear inside Gran Turismo 7. The process begins with an application open to players aged 18 and older who have a PlayStation Network account and live in eligible regions, including the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia.
To apply, fans will sign in with their PSN ID and answer a set of questions that focus on their PlayStation story. Applicants will be asked to explain what PlayStation means to them, share their happiest memories tied to PlayStation games, and describe how much time they’ve invested in the games they love most. Sony will then review submissions and narrow the pool to a small shortlist of finalists.
Finalists won’t be picked randomly. Sony plans to interview shortlisted applicants through a video call before selecting the person who will officially join Gran Turismo 7. The chosen winner will then be flown to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a full 3D scanning session, capturing their face and likeness for use in the game.
Once added, the winner will appear in Gran Turismo 7 as a limited-time character portrait placed throughout the game. They’ll also collaborate with the game’s artists and designers to create a custom fantasy logo and a one-of-a-kind vehicle livery. Unlike the portrait, that personalized logo and livery will remain permanently visible in Gran Turismo 7’s Showcase menu, making it a lasting in-game tribute.
Sony says it will cover travel and related expenses for the winner, along with one guest. The winner is expected to be selected and revealed in summer 2026, with their in-game appearance arriving later through a future update.
While Gran Turismo 7 is first, Sony has also suggested The Playerbase could expand over time as more PlayStation Studios participate, opening the door for fan appearances in other major franchises down the road.
