Pathway Steam Deal Drops the Turn-Based Strategy RPG to Just $4.79
Pathway, the stylish turn-based tactics RPG from Robotality, is now available on Steam with a steep 70% discount, bringing the price down to $4.79 from its usual $16. The offer is part of a Chucklefish publisher sale and is scheduled to run until July 31. This also matches the game’s lowest recorded price since its original launch in 2019, making it an appealing pickup for fans of tactical combat and pulp adventure stories.
Released in April 2019, Pathway sends players into an alternate-history 1930s adventure across North Africa. You take command of a group of mercenaries trying to stop Nazi forces from uncovering dangerous occult artifacts. The setup leans heavily into classic adventure serials, with ancient ruins, hidden treasures, mysterious powers, and plenty of tense battles along the way.
The game’s campaign is procedurally generated, meaning each run can offer different encounters, events, and tactical challenges. Players travel across desert maps, make decisions during story events, gather supplies, and fight enemies in grid-based turn-based battles. Every mission feels like a compact expedition, with squad management and careful positioning playing a major role in survival.
One of Pathway’s most distinctive features is its visual style. The game combines pixel art with voxel-inspired depth, lighting, and shadow effects, giving its retro presentation a more cinematic look. It feels old-school without looking flat, helping the desert landscapes, ruins, and battlefield scenes stand out.
Character progression is also a key part of the experience. As your squad defeats enemies and completes objectives, characters can be upgraded through skill trees. Equipment and recovered items can carry over between sessions, giving the game a sense of long-term progression. However, losing a battle ends that run, so decisions matter. For players who want an even tougher challenge, a free post-launch update added a hardcore permadeath mode.
Pathway currently holds a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, with around 79% positive user reviews from more than 2,200 players. Many fans praise its atmosphere, tactical battles, visual presentation, and Indiana Jones-style adventure tone. Some criticism has been aimed at its mission structure, which can become repetitive over longer play sessions. Because of that, Pathway may be best suited for players who enjoy shorter bursts of strategy gameplay rather than a massive tactical RPG designed to consume dozens of hours.
At less than $5, Pathway is an easy game to consider if you enjoy turn-based strategy, squad-based combat, roguelite progression, or pulp adventure settings. Its mix of tactical battles, procedural campaigns, occult mystery, and stylish retro visuals gives it a unique identity in the strategy RPG space.
The Steam discount is expected to last until July 31, though pricing and availability can change depending on the store and region.
