Steam’s momentum isn’t slowing down as 2026 gets underway. After a massive 2025, the world’s biggest PC game storefront is already stacking up fresh milestones in the new year. Steam ended December on an especially strong high, pulling in more than $1.6 billion in revenue during the month alone. That total came in well ahead of December 2024, underscoring just how quickly Steam’s user base and buying activity continue to expand.
That surge in popularity is also playing out in real time through Steam’s concurrent user numbers. In October 2025, Steam hit a major benchmark when it set a new all-time record for players logged in simultaneously. On Sunday, October 12, more than 41 million users were on the platform at the same time. A key factor behind that spike was the arrival of major releases, including Battlefield 6, which launched on October 10 and surged to a peak of more than 747,000 concurrent players on day one.
Now Steam has topped even that. Live tracking data shows that on January 11, 2026, Steam reached a new all-time peak of 42,042,778 concurrent users. That’s the highest number of people ever logged into Steam at once, and it’s a notable sign that activity is still climbing even outside the typical blockbuster launch window.
Looking back over the last few years makes the growth even clearer. Steam first crossed 33 million concurrent users in January 2023. By March 2024, it had already climbed to 36 million. Since then, the platform has kept adding users at a steady pace, pushing beyond 40 million and now breaking through the 42 million mark.
Steam’s commanding position in the PC gaming market helps explain why these records keep falling. Estimates put Steam at roughly 75% of the PC digital distribution market in the United States and about 74% worldwide. With that kind of reach, Steam remains the central hub for PC gaming—where players buy new releases, jump into multiplayer sessions, and keep their libraries in one place—making new concurrent player records feel less like surprises and more like the new normal.
