Valve Rolls Out New Steam Deck Beta Update With UI Scaling Fixes, Remote Play Improvements, and More
Valve has released a fresh Steam Deck Client update for users on the Preview and Beta channels, delivering a useful round of fixes and improvements for the popular handheld gaming PC. The latest update focuses on making the Steam Deck experience smoother across Big Picture Mode, Remote Play, controller compatibility, and Steam Controller firmware.
One of the biggest fixes in this Steam Deck update targets an issue with incorrect UI scaling in Big Picture Mode when used through Desktop Mode. Some users were seeing interface elements appear at the wrong size, which could make navigation feel awkward or inconsistent. With this update, Valve has adjusted the scaling behavior so menus, buttons, and other UI elements display more accurately.
The update also resolves a bug related to Patch Notes previews found under Settings and System. Previously, the Steam Deck could sometimes show patch notes from the wrong update channel, which may have caused confusion for users checking what had changed. That issue has now been corrected.
Remote Play also gets several welcome improvements. Valve has added 59.94 FPS as a selectable framerate limit, giving players more flexibility when tuning their streaming experience. This can be especially helpful for users who want smoother playback or better compatibility with certain displays.
Players using the automatic framerate limit should also notice fewer frame drops during Remote Play sessions. This change is aimed at improving overall streaming stability and making games feel more responsive when played remotely.
Another important Remote Play fix addresses a problem where the client video decoder could become overloaded when unlimited bandwidth was enabled. For users with strong home networks or fast connections, this should help reduce performance issues and create a more stable streaming experience.
Valve has also expanded Steam Input support with this update. The wired and wireless PDP Afterglow Wave Controller for Nintendo Switch are now supported, along with Turtle Beach controllers designed for Nintendo Switch 2. This gives Steam Deck users more controller options when playing at home, docked to a display, or in multiplayer setups.
The update also includes a firmware-related fix for the Steam Controller. Valve has corrected an issue that could occasionally cause repeated B Button presses, improving reliability for users still enjoying the classic controller.
Steam Deck owners who want to try the update early can install it by opening Settings, going to System, selecting System Update Channel, and choosing either Preview or Beta. Since this release is currently limited to the testing channels, it will be evaluated by early users before it becomes available through the Stable channel.
Overall, this Steam Deck beta update may not be a massive feature drop, but it delivers meaningful improvements that enhance daily use. Better UI scaling, smoother Remote Play, expanded controller support, and firmware fixes all help make Valve’s handheld gaming experience more polished and reliable.
