Star Wars Battlefront 3 May Finally Be Happening—But Not How Fans Expected

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Rumor Claims Disney Is Exploring DICE and Bungie for the Long-Awaited Sequel

Nearly a decade after Star Wars Battlefront II launched in 2017, hope for Star Wars Battlefront 3 may finally be returning. A new rumor suggests Disney is interested in reviving the fan-favorite shooter series and is already considering which studio could bring the next large-scale Star Wars multiplayer game to life.

According to a report discussed by gaming journalist Jeff Grubb, Disney is reportedly looking at two major names for a possible Star Wars Battlefront 3 project: EA DICE and Bungie. While nothing has been officially announced, the rumor has quickly caught the attention of Star Wars and shooter fans who have been waiting years for a true follow-up.

DICE is the obvious candidate. The Swedish studio developed Star Wars Battlefront in 2015 and Star Wars Battlefront II in 2017, making it the team most closely associated with the modern version of the franchise. Despite Battlefront II’s rocky launch, the game eventually built a much stronger reputation thanks to updates, expanded content, improved progression, and a loyal player base that continued supporting it long after release.

Bungie, however, is the surprise name in the discussion. Best known for creating Halo and developing Destiny, Bungie has a long history with sci-fi shooters and tight gunplay. A Star Wars Battlefront game with Bungie’s signature feel could be a major draw, especially for players who want more responsive shooting mechanics, deeper online systems, and a polished multiplayer experience.

Still, Bungie taking on Star Wars Battlefront 3 would be an unusual move. The studio is owned by Sony and has largely focused on its own franchises in recent years. However, given Bungie’s recent challenges, including layoffs and financial pressure, a major licensed project like Star Wars could potentially offer a new direction and a huge built-in audience.

Even so, DICE may remain the more likely choice if the project moves forward. The studio already understands the Battlefront formula: massive battles, iconic heroes and villains, familiar planets, vehicle combat, and the mix of infantry and cinematic Star Wars action that fans expect from the series.

The reaction from fans has been a mix of excitement and caution. Many players want Star Wars Battlefront 3 to happen, but they also worry about whether either studio is in the right position to deliver the game fans have imagined for years. Both DICE and Bungie have changed significantly over time, with many veteran developers no longer at the studios.

At the same time, the idea of a new Battlefront is difficult to ignore. The franchise still has enormous potential. A modern Star Wars Battlefront 3 could feature battles from across the entire saga, including the prequels, original trilogy, sequels, animated shows, and newer live-action series. With current-generation hardware, the game could deliver larger maps, better destruction, improved visuals, smarter AI, and more immersive space and ground combat.

For now, Star Wars Battlefront 3 remains only a rumor. No studio has officially confirmed development, and there is no release window. Still, the fact that Disney is reportedly interested in exploring a new entry is enough to reignite discussion around one of the most requested Star Wars games.

If Star Wars Battlefront 3 does become real, expectations will be massive. Fans do not just want another sequel; they want the definitive Star Wars battlefield experience. Whether that future lies with DICE, Bungie, or another studio entirely, the demand is clearly still there.
