Night of the Consumers

Spooky Supermarket Simulator Set to Release This October

This Labor Day, brace yourself for the highly anticipated PC release of Night of the Consumers. GERMFOOD has finally announced that the full version will be available starting October 28th on Steam. After over four years of beta testing, the complete experience of Night of the Consumers will soon be at our fingertips.

In this gripping game, you step into the shoes of an underpaid retail worker tackling an onslaught of demanding customers. The Manager, an unsympathetic overseer, adds to the pressure by threatening to fire you for even the slightest customer dissatisfaction.

The game vividly brings to life the infamous adage, “The customer is always right,” even when shoppers engage in drastic and disrespectful acts. From soiling the store floors to spreading diseases through unsanitary actions, and hurling insults, the customers’ behavior quickly highlights the harsh realities of retail work. The Manager’s tyrannical stance would likely see the minimum wage entirely scrapped if he had his way.

Characters in Night of the Consumers are inspired by actual people and circumstances. We’ve all encountered individuals who belittle workers in retail or fast food, showing little to no respect for those doing their best in challenging jobs. The game even teases these themes through its compelling trailer.

The narrative echoes a broader societal issue: the lack of respect often faced by retail workers. Rather than acknowledging their efforts, some people go out of their way to demean them, exacerbating already stressful conditions. These workers frequently face harassment, unhealthy work environments, and poor management, epitomized in viral videos of individuals harassing employees simply doing their jobs.

Night of the Consumers captures these experiences through the lens of indie horror, offering players a mix of tension and catharsis. The game’s style and theme aim to provide a gripping commentary on the retail worker’s plight, making it a unique entry in the genre.

I’m eagerly anticipating the full release, and I’m sure many indie horror enthusiasts on platforms like YouTube will be too. The game’s alpha and beta demos have garnered significant attention, and it will be fascinating to see what new elements the final version introduces.
