SpaceX is making waves with its Starlink network, achieving impressive download speeds of 200 Mbps in the US, even during peak hours. This boost is thanks to the launch of the V2 satellites, adding 5 Tbps of capacity each week.
In their latest update, SpaceX highlighted significant improvements in download speeds and latency. Through strategic placement of terrestrial antennas, median latency decreased from 45 ms to 25.7 ms, edging closer to the ideal 20 ms for gaming. Elon Musk even mentioned that upcoming satellites could potentially reduce this to just 5 ms.
The future of Starlink looks even brighter with the V3 satellites on the horizon. These powerhouses, resembling a Boeing 737 with extended solar panels, are set to dramatically expand capacity beyond the current 450 Tbps. Each V3 satellite will support 1 Gbps throughput, significantly boosting uplink speeds. These launches, scheduled for early 2026, will enhance the network’s capacity by 60 Tbps per launch, paving the way for gigabit internet with speeds over 1 Gbps.
Starlink is already offering a $1,999 Performance dish designed to handle these future gigabit speeds. In contrast, the discounted Mini dish on Amazon caps at 100 Mbps, while the standard residential kit hits around 400 Mbps, where available.
With these advancements, Starlink is set to transform internet connectivity, bringing high-speed and low-latency service to users worldwide.
